A/N: I was watching the pilot again and this little idea popped into my head and I just had to write it down. Reviews and criticism are appreciated.

We're Going to Get Along Great

As Danny watched Steve leave his office he thought the poor guy looked terrible. He glanced down at what Steve had given him. How he remembered that he was going to have Grace over the weekend after everything that had happened was lost to him.

Maybe he was listening this whole time not just trying to make fun of him. He had gone out of his way to make sure that father and daughter would have a great time.

Swimming with dolphins? Gracie would love that. Ha! Take that Step Stan and Mr. Hoppy. Danny smiled at the thought as he sat down.

Or maybe it was his way of apologizing for almost getting him killed a few times in the short time that he had known him, but wait he had apologized, well at least for getting him shot. Which reminded him that he hadn't told him that his apology had been accepted.

As he absentmindedly watched the men outside clearing their new headquarters he thought back to their talk back at his place.

I'm making you my partner. We're gonna get along great.

At the time he didn't think that would be possible even after the events that took place a short while after that but after all they had been through…

It would take some time to get used to all the crazy stunts that he was probably going to pull in the future but he saw that Steve seemed to genuinely care for his new team, not only as a boss but as a friend.

Danny thought Steve would make an excellent buddy, sure he poked fun at him, put him in situations that he would gladly avoid but maybe he needed people to keep him out of trouble and it looked like trouble seemed to follow him everywhere from the short time that they had been a team. He was glad that Chin and Kono were there to help him with Steve, the trouble magnet.

"Hey, we've got beers you wanna join us?" Steve said as he poked his head into Danny's office.

"Sure."

He was right. They were going to get along great.
