Devin fell to her knees. This couldn't be happening. This only happened in her nightmares didn't it? It made sense though, her wildest dreams had come true, why not her nightmares to?
-Months ago -
The owl was a surprise. Hidden away in Snape's house on Spinners End as she was, Devin never expected a letter to reach her. But here it was and here was Fred Weasley asking her to join his family. Join his family?! Devin had never really had the chance to belong to such a thing. Her dad had been thrown in Azkaban before she had cut her first teeth, at which point her mother was already cold in her grave. But here it was all the same, a chance to start anew with a whole new family.

She now knew this is what her father would have chosen for her if given the chance, he had died fighting alongside Weasleys had he not? He would want her to shed the Pureblood ideals and join a more excepting family. A few years ago she would never have even considered settling down with anyone. She was her fathers child all over, fun and boys, that's what life had been about. The Death Eaters had given her a group to follow, a chance to rise through the ranks, and friends to have fun with. But her fathers death had changed her. She had to make him proud did she not? She had already done everything in her power to do so, turning traitor on the most powerful Dark Lord of all time for him. Hiding out in this damned house over Easter break, waiting for orders from her "master" for him.

And Fred, how had she fallen for him? He was a Gryffindor and she was a Slytherin! It had to have been the flirting. Man that boy could flirt. She felt her face break into a grin at the thought of him. Oh god, look at her, grinning like a schoolgirl. If her Slytherin friends could see her now she could just imagine what hexes they would use. But this is what she had always wanted, somewhere deep inside her, wasn't it? A chance to really belong?

She looked back down at the parchment in her hands.
"Dear Devin," it read, "I haven't talked to you in too long. I had to send you this, even though it might endanger us both. Whats life without a little risk anyway? I hope you are having fun serving under our lord moldy shorts, I bet he throws the wildest parties. Anyway, I was wondering if you would do me the honor of becoming my wife? The dark times have made me realize that I want you in my family. No hurry, just let me know what you decide next time you see me.

Yours always, Fred."

But settle down? Did she really want to do that at this point? Her father hadn't wanted to, he had never married her mother. She folded the parchment up and tucked it in the pocket of her robes where no one would find it. Chances are she wouldn't have to come up with an answer anytime soon anyway.
-Now-
Devin fell forward, catching herself right before her face hit the stone floor of the great hall. She sat up and lifted her hands to her face, they came back wet. For a moment she panicked, thinking she had been hit with a spell and it was blood, but it was just tears. She looked back up at where the bodies of those fallen in the battle had been gathered.

Please, she thought with guilty desperation, let it be George. Just let it be George because it couldn't be Fred. It would break her if it was Fred. She stood up, stumbled, and then started running. She fell again, this time not catching herself quite soon enough, her knees hitting the ground painfully.

The red haired body on the floor, he had both ears.

She crawled the last few feet until she was close enough to touch him. She cradled his head in her hands, not caring about the Weasleys watching her, not caring that they never knew about her and Fred. Out of the corner of her eye she vaguely registered George hold his brothers back from pulling her away, Fred must have told him at least.

She leaned forward and pressed her lips against Fred's. "Yes," she whispered, "I would always have said yes."
