She'd never realized how lonely she was until the first time he'd gone away from her for any extended period of time.
"Edward wants to hunt some big cats," Emmett said, "So, we're thinking of heading out east for the weekend."
"Are you requesting my permission, Emmett?"
"Just thought I'd see if you wanted to come."
Forty-eight hours he would be gone, and she was climbing the walls before the third hour had passed. It was excruciating to be alone again; how did she stomach it once before?
Rosalie hadn't realized how utterly dependent she was upon Emmett until he walked out the door without her, and she was alone again.
She didn't need someone else like Alice and Jasper did, she did not need to be with Emmett every solitary second of her existence--she had thought.
He aggravated her so with the way he clung to her. Constant with his ideas of marriage, and becoming betrothed, and married like the others in their family.
She could only fight the urge to roll her eyes; she had been engaged once, and it hadn't lived up to her expectations.
"Besides, Edward's not married."
"Edward's alone."
It was a painful hourly existence now that she was alone, and no longer did she begrudge her brother his solitude, how could he live like that? How could she, more to the point, survive like that?
Emmett hadn't wanted to go once Rosalie had refused.
Sometimes he worried that if he was gone for too long she would decide she didn't want him.
"You're being ridiculous." Edward told him, Rosalie loved him…even if she didn't realize it completely.
"You're never going to convince her to change her mind, catering to her every whim like this." Edward remarked, "She's not going to move an inch until it suits her."
Emmett disagreed. "She will. It's just going to take some more persuasion."
"Oh?" Edward smirked, "So, maybe a trip to Paris this time?"
No, he was not in the market for any of Edward's other criticisms on his attempts to woo Rosalie.
Emmett frowned. "Shut up, Edward."
"Do try not to launch yourself into her arms like its been more than thirty hours, please Emmett?" Edward requested.
Emmett just snarled at his brother, being away from Rosalie for such an extended time had made him increasingly irritable, and Edward was thrilled to be rid of him.
Rosalie couldn't detach herself from him.
She wanted to tell him just how much she had missed him, how worthless life was without him but she didn't have words for it.
"Did'ja miss me?" Emmett teased, easily able to believe how much he'd missed her.
"I don't want you to ever say goodbye again." Rosalie murmured. "I love you, Emmett."
The sudden burst of affection stunned him. She had been so distant lately.
"Rose, have you changed your mind?"
Rosalie nodded her head, "I would like very much to be your wife, Emmett."
Emmett kissed her, he knew she'd come around.
