Disclaimer: I don't own anything. Nadda. So sorry you won't get any money. And the song "I'll Take Care of you" was written by John David Souther and performed by the Dixie Chicks

I'll Take Care of You

Times are hard and rents are high
what can a working girl do
but struggle through another day
then I'll take care of you

June 17, 1900
My Darling Jenny,
The sun began to rise about the buildings just as you finally fall asleep. Kissing your little button nose one last time I laid you down in your little box. I promise one day I will afford to buy you a bed. But times are hard. Mrs. Kendall from next door came into watch you. I need to get to work. She comments on my tired eyes and I just smile. Because no matter what I'll take care of you.

Nights are long and dreams are cold
if they're all you wake up to
but should you rise with cryin' eyes
I'll take care of you

Darling Jenny,
Yawning I gather my papers and head off to sell. The doctor told me you are colicky. I don't know what it means, all I know is you don't sleep at night, you cry all night long. But it is ok baby girl, because I will take care of you. I am getting used to not getting any sleep. Besides when I am working I can't think about how tired I am. I am also getting used to working all day. I don't mind though, because I need the money so I can care for you.

So let them talk about us
let them call us funny things people sometimes do
I don't care as long as you know I love you
oh, and you know I do

Darling Jenny,
People talk behind my back about many hurtful things. They call us names and gossip about things I couldn't control. It is not my fault that you are not only my daughter but my sister too. I don't care that I don't fit in or even about what they say because all I ever will need is you. And no matter what you are mine and I love you so much. I do.

I'll be there but you might not see me
It's never easy to get through
but when the laughter dies away
I'll take care of you

My Darling Jenny,
I made the hardest decision of my life today. I met this really nice family today while I was selling papers. They are really rich too. A prominent family in New York. Then I saw them again later too. They came into the restaurant while I was working. They were surprised to see me working so hard. They wondered why a 14 year old was working so much. We began to talk. They are a really nice family. And it seems they couldn't have children, Jenny. So I had to decide the hardest thing ever. I hope you know how much I love you. This is the only reason I did this Jenny. I told them they could adopt you. They were so happy I knew you would be taken care of. I know I promised I would take care of you Jenny. So I had to do this for you. It is getting so cold out. I won't sell as many papers. And I think I might lose my job at the restaurant too. I haven't paid the rent in months either. I can't have you living on the street Jenny. I love you and I know they will take care of you.

Darling I'll take care of you

My Darling Jenny,
I saw you in the park today with your family. You looked so happy. I know I made the right decision. You are almost two now. You are getting so big and beautiful. I pray for you every night baby. I don't know any other way to help you. They have so much money there isn't anything I can do. So I decided to give this to you. To remind you your mommy loved you so much. I am sixteen now baby. I miss you every day. But I know you are taken care of. I met a guy. He knows all about you. I hope you understand why I don't visit you Jenny. I can't. You are happy now and I will take care of you. I will stay away and let you live your life.

Love,
Mommy
