I start to go home, telling Zarix, Rescue Team Nippon's newest recruit ( a Shuppet), what life will be like for him when I see it. A glowing ball of light floats in front of us. "Chibi…Zarix," Kagu's voice radiates from it, "I'm sorry."
"Kagu," I can't hide the yelp that comes out, "what happened to you? Did Rayquaza pull some trick on you? You were fine before we went to the sky… Tell me what happened."
"I have to go back to the human world," the ball morphs into a Cubone shape, "tell the others I said goodbye. Explain everything to Zarix, Chibi."
"What," I yelp again, this time I don't try to stifle it, "go back? I thought…you and Nanami…and Zapdos. I thought you liked it here!"
"If I had a choice," the light-Kagu says, "I'd stay, believe me. My role here has ended," small light fragments fall from its facial area, "Gardevoir said I have to go. There's no way around it. I'm sorry."
"Wait," Zarix, who had been quiet this whole time, suddenly speaks, "you have to go? Where? Why? What about the team?"
"It rests in Nanami's hands now," the light-Kagu looks away sadly, as a faint silhouette of a Gardevoir appears, "ask Inabati about the Ninetales incident. I have to go. Gardevoir's waiting."
"Kagu," tears drip off my muzzle, "I'll never forget you! Not for as long as I live!"
"And I will remember you," the light-Kagu turns back into a ball, "maybe, if I become a Trainer, we'll meet again."
"Goodbye Kagu," tears flow freely as the ball shoots skyward, "we'll miss you."
"She's gone?" Zarix turns a pale gray, shining things dropping from his eyes, "what do we do now?"
"We should check up on Nanami," I say, turning back to Pokemon Square, "she's probably worse than us."
"Nanami," the Shuppet tilts its head, "the Mudkip with the chipped tail? The one Kagu talked about?"
"Yes," I say, starting to walk, "let's check and see if she's alright. She knew Kagu longer than us."
"Okay." The Shuppet floats beside me as I walk to the town. I only have three links to Kagu: Raiden the Electrike, Inabati the Absol, and Nanami the Mudkip. I wonder how the others will take the news…
