I Remember
Disclaimer: i do not, nor have i ever owned Harry Potter or any of it's characters
I remember the first time I ever set eyes on Hogwarts. Whatever words I'd heard to describe it faded from my memory. I stared in awe. The huge castle was illuminated by the stars and bright flaming torches. The waters of the lake were before me. I hesitantly looked at what would be my class for the next seven years. I was faced with the biggest decision of my life at that time. Obey my parents and hang out with Slytherins only….or get the satisfaction of disobeying them, and knowing they couldn't do anything about it until the holidays. It really was a big decision.
My eyes landed on Luscious and Snape. They stood there looking smug, like they knew they were better than everyone else, even if everyone else didn't know it. Next my eyes landed on a small group of frightened little girls. 'Muggles' I thought with a sigh. I spotted James Potter, standing next to a small pudgy little boy with rat like features. Sometime I would wished I was James Ptter. Not that I would ever mention that to my parents. He had the life. He had a family that loved him, and would support him no matter what happened.
"Firs' years onto the boats!" I heard a gruff voice call. I looked up and smiled slightly. 'So this is Hagrid. He's not all that bad. Looks kinda young though.'
I had mere seconds to decide what boat I was going in. My eyes scanned the boats for likely looking non judgmental candidates. Snape and Malfoy….Potter and Rat boy…Red and Brown haired muggles…..I tilted my head to the side. A small, sickly looking boy with amber eyes. He was sitting alone in a boat looking wary of everyone else. I quickly scanned the boats again and made the decision that helped change the course of my life. I hopped onto the boat scaring the bejeezes out of the amber eyed boy.
"Sorry" I murmured.
He just gave me a small smile and held out his hand. "Remus Lupin" he said simply.
I took his hand and suddenly felt that things weren't going to be as bad as I thought they were.
"Sirius Black." I stated, watching for some reaction. A reaction of revulsion was what normally came. But instead all he did was smile and go:
"Seriously?"
I snorted and rolled my eyes. 'Great. It's not like I haven't heard that one before.' I thought sarcastically. But on the inside I knew I had made a new friend. And that is what counted. It was the begining of the rest of my life, and I was not alone anymore.
