"Commander, I'm fine."
Hanji sat by Moblit's side and stared at what she caused with held back tears. He was not fine and Hanji knew this from the moment she ran to Moblit realizing the new weapon was killing him. The spear-like weapon was meant to kill Reiner, not Moblit or the rest of her squad.
"I'm sorry. It was by my orders this happened. I should have…" She took the time to breathe in the sorrow, "I should have held the squad back."
"Commander, who was to expect Bertolt to come flying in like that?" Moblit weakly laughed nervously before wincing in pain due to the spear in his abdomen. They both knew the outcome was going to be Moblit dying like the rest of Hanji's squad. He began to speak softly again, "You need to go back up the 104th recruits right?"
'Damn him.' Hanji knew he was right. Reiner was almost down, they are so close. Yet, he heart ached at the thought of leaving Moblit's side. They have been through so much together. They survived together. All these years Moblit was there to warn her even though she knew the risks. Moblit was always there to remind her to eat and sleep. He was there with worry and trust every step of the way. He didn't deserve to die like this, but he was right.
"Hanji, I'll be alright," Moblit assured with a smile, "go and make everyone's death be for a purpose. That bastard will not know what hit him when you get there."
Taking his hand Hanji held it tight feeling her warm tears falling to the ground. "Moblit, all these years I never told you how much I appreciate you. You have always been there and-"
"Commander, go!" Moblit coughed out. "I'll be here when you get back. I promise you. Now please, go back and help Eren and the others."
She hated the feeling of placing down Moblit's hand and standing up to only give a nod. How Moblit could hold a smile was assuring, though she knew he was lying.
He was always there, but heading to the 104th's position he wasn't.
