Robin isn't a stupid woman. She knows she comes off that way sometimes. The way she looks. The way she acts. Even the way she speaks; sometimes belittles her intelligence. People are actually genuinely surprised that she is an intelligent woman, because intelligent women would never do what she did. They would never strip for money. They just wouldn't.
She lets them think that, most of the time anyway. Katherine's circle of friends are different. She didn't lie when she said that they saw her because they do; but the person who saw her most was Katherine. And Robin saw Katherine. She saw her completely; even the parts that Katherine didn't want her to see.
She sees the darkness in Katherine. The part of her that went a little crazy for awhile. The part of her that she tries to hide with medication. It scares Robin sometimes how close to the surface that part of her is. She sometimes wakes up to Katherine crying in her sleep and doesn't know what to do. The first time it happened Robin thought that Katherine had regretted their relationship but later she realized that Katherine hadn't realized she had been crying.
She watches Katherine sometimes. She sees a sadness inside of her that refuses to go away. The psychiatrist Katherine is seeing doesn't seem to be helping at all. Every time Katherine comes back from talking with him she has a haunted look on her face but when Robin asks about it Katherine smiles and tells her not to worry.
Every time Robin has to leave her alone in the big house she is afraid that something bad will happen. Every time she leaves she is afraid there will be nothing there when she gets back because Katherine is a broken women. A woman who has been hurt and betrayed by life on too many occasions and Robin is afraid that one more time may just kill her. Robin doesn't think that Katherine can stand one more heartbreak and survive it.
So Robin does what she can to make Katherine happy because Katherine makes her happy. Despite everything, the sadness, the uncertainty, the gloom; being with Katherine is the happiest Robin has ever been in her life. When they are together Katherine smiles at her and Robin can almost believe that she is getting better that she can get better. That all she needs is time.
Katherine deserves some happiness; she deserves to be loved and Robin is determined to be the one to give those things to her and not because she has to but because she wants to. Robin does love Katherine and she hopes that with time Katherine will realize that and some of whatever it is that is chasing her will fall away. She hopes that one day she will be enough for her but just in case makes sure that everything is set up just in case something goes horribly wrong. Just in case Katherine does something bad.
Whatever happens she'll be there for Katherine. If she has to she'll wait for Katherine to be ready; even if it means another stint in the mental hospital. But she's hopes that won't be necessary. That everything will be alright with time. She makes love to Katherine likes he means it because she does and doesn't take offense when Katherine cries in her sleep. She pretends not to notice the far away look Katherine gets sometimes or the uncertainty in her actions. She does all this not because she has to but because she wants to. Because no matter how she comes off sometimes; she knows what she has is rare. And Robin isn't a stupid woman.
