(AN: Dedicated to a friend who is the canon Hotch to my canon Reid. B, this is for you!)
(AN 2: This is short because I'm a bit busy. The next one will be longer, promise.)
Aaron Hotchner was a very determined man. He wanted what he wanted and he made sure he got it, consequences be damned. Apparently, that was a core part of his psyche, because right now his emotions had taken his rational mind and duct taped it in the closet to get what they wanted.
Take right now, for example. Emotions were involved- surprisingly strong ones- and it led to Reid climbing into the passenger's seat of his SUV for a lunch date. Rationally, Aaron knew that this was possibly the dumbest thing he had ever done, but the excitement slapped his rationality upside the head and shoved it back in the closet.
"So," Reid asked, "where do you want to go for lunch?" He smiled shyly at Aaron, tucking his hair behind his ear.
"Have you seen the new cafe on Brook Street? I heard it's-" Both of their cell phones went off. JJ had texted them, there was a new case. The look of utter disappointment on Reid's face was heartbreaking as he sighed and they climbed back out of the car.
"Reid." Aaron took hold of his hand. "I'll make it up to you. Would you want to go to dinner after this case?"
Spencer smiled and bit his lip. "I... I'd like that," he managed to get out. He said yes! the excited part of Aaron's mind yelled. The rational part was mumbling about how lunch could be passed off as a friendly thing between coworkers, but dinner was another matter entirely. He didn't care. The hand he was holding was soft and a bit shaky, but it fit well within his. It brought a smile to his face.
They dropped hands as they neared the building's entrance, but if anyone had been watching they would've seen how Hotch was in Reid's personal space, one of the things you just Did Not Do, and they would've seen the way the two were holding back grins.
When they came out of the elevator, Emily could've sworn she heard Hotch laugh.
