Hermione looked up as she felt Ron get up from next to her. He walked to the end of the hall, and left. Wiping the tears off her cheek, she followed him as he made his way over to the smallish tree beside the lake. This tree had many happy memories for both of them: they and Harry had 'adopted' this tree their first summer of Hogwarts.
Ron sat down, leaning against the trunk. Hermione carefully lowered herself next to him. She laid her head on his shoulder, and he put an arm around her. Out of the corner of her eye she could see the tears running down his face, and gently she wiped them away with her thumb. He smiled through his tears, as he bent his head to close the distance between their lips.
'Thank you.' He whispered.
'For what?'
'Just for being here, when I needed you most.'
'I always will be.' She smiled up at him. 'Always.'
