Hideyoshi Kinoshita slumped down on the couch the instant he got home. As usual, Yuuko tried to avoid noticing him, but it became increasingly difficult to do so as he fidgeted and huffed. Every few seconds, he emitted another irritating little noise to distract her.

"Do you mind?" she snapped finally. "Unlike some people, I'm actually trying to complete my homework."

Her twin glanced at her warily, and Yuuko suddenly felt she may have been a bit too irritable with him. Apparently, she was having one of those infrequent, guilty moments.

"Why don't you just tell me what's wrong?" she tried again, forcing herself to sound more patient this time.

The girl assumed it was only a homework problem or two, what with the way he was boring holes in the papers he was clenching. It might be a big deal for Hideyoshi, but compared to class A's homework, the E level assignments were a cinch, and it would be well worth the time it took to help him if he would leave the room. She needed to concentrate. Hideyoshi made that difficult to do.

Before she could continue with, "maybe I can help you?" Hideyoshi answered her question:

"They cast me as Juliet," he muttered, baffled by this drama club outcome. After all these years, he was still oblivious to his own feminine qualities.

Yuuko was not. "Ah, a classic," she replied nonchalantly. "I see the drama club is doing something wholesome and productive for once."

He shot her a look; an odd mixture of irritation and bewilderment, and Yuuko quickly realized her mistake. "You actually agree with this?"

"Oh, uh . . . They're doing it for authenticity, you see."

"Authenticity?"

"Well . . . yeah. See, back in those days, all the roles in English theaters were played by men and boys."

The look was unrelenting. "There are more girls playing male roles," he pointed out dryly.

'Why are you picking now of all days to fuss about it?' Yuuko was tempted to demand. Her twin often complained about being stuck in dresses and frills, but it was normally in good humor. She almost would have sworn he actually enjoyed it.

On the other hand, she found this situation a little amusing – it was this fact that allowed her placid side to remain in charge.

"Think about it, Hideyoshi. What's the ratio of boys-to-girls in the club?" she smiled. "And yes, I'm actually going to make you do the math."

Hideyoshi rolled his eyes and ignored that last direction. "Well, there are more girls than boys, so . . ."

"That's it exactly. There aren't enough roles to be filled out by only boys, and even if there were, it would be completely unfair to the girls in the group."

"But . . . I'm still the only boy in a dress," Hideyoshi replied, but Yuuko could tell he was musing over this idea. Her brother had a strange way of looking up at the ceiling and frowning slightly when he was really deep in thought. These moments were even more rare than her generous ones, but she knew Hideyoshi well enough to recognize them.

"You should feel privileged."

She smirked when Hideyoshi's eyes seemed to light up at this idea.

"Oh?"

"Yep. So you should go practice now, okay?"

Suddenly, Hideyoshi was rushing off to his bedroom to do as she suggested. At times, he was so naïve it was almost cute.

But even Hideyoshi can't be that stupid. Yuuko has maybe forty minutes before he realizes what a flimsy excuse that was? Haha.

. . . I just hope I kept them in character well enough.
