Veronica was a bubbly young girl. She was seven years older than Alex, but nobody would have ever thought so. The two were complete opposites – Alex was quiet and reserved with a silent strength, whereas Veronica was loud and friendly, and held no fear.

Alex admired Veronica for all that she was. She had been the one to stick beside her when things got tough. She had managed to convince Boone to stay when they had had a huge falling out. She always got stories out of Arcade, and Raul had become a sort of father figure for her – something that gave him purpose and meaning to life. He had shared with Alex one day that Veronica reminded him of his Rafaela. Her bubbly nature; the way she smiled.

And that was why Alex was madly in love with the girl.

When she'd been travelling alone, she always felt like something was missing. When she met Boone, she thought she loved him. But he was too damaged. He could never love anyone but Carla, and she understood that. When she'd stumbled across Arcade in Freeside, she quickly learned he wasn't interested in women. That was a shame because he really was quite attractive.

Obviously, ED-E, Rex, and Lily weren't suitable candidates under any circumstances, and for her tastes, neither was Raul.

That only left Cass and Veronica.

For the time being, Cass was determined to turn Arcade straight. Arcade, however, was completely blind to her advances, which Alex found hysterical.

Meeting Veronica had been an interesting experience. Alex was instantly attracted to her, which was odd considering she had always considered herself straight. Maybe she just liked looking at girls.

That's what she told herself.

Moving from place to place across the wasteland often resulted in fights about who would get the beds wherever they were staying. More than once, Alex and Veronica had drawn lucky and got the queen bed.

Tonight was one of those nights.

"Alex." Veronica had rolled over and was facing her.

"Yeah?"

"Who do you have a crush on?" A mischevious glint came into Veronica's eyes. "Is it Boone? Cause I could totally arrange something."

Alex was silent for a moment. "It used to be." She said with a mysterious tone.

"It isn't now?"

"No. He's too damaged."

"So who is it now?" Veronica kept prodding.

"It's a girl….." Alex trailed off, wishing this conversation would end.

"IT'S CASS!" Veronica said loudly, and Alex slapped her hand over her mouth.

"SHHHHH! It is not!" she hissed.

Alex removed her hand and put her mouth in its place, catching Veronica completely off guard.

Minutes later Veronica broke their kiss. "I didn't….." her sentence was cut off by Alex's mouth on hers again.

"For the love of God, Veronica, shut the fuck up and kiss me." Alex said with a laugh and threw the sheets over their heads.
