Blood pumped quickly through veins, filled with machines tinier than something an eye could ever possibly hope to see.
Muscles tore and healed almost instantly as the lithe body pushed itself to the brink.
She ran, wanting more than anything to save him.
A cry. She hadn't made it. Sven hit the ground, blood spattering beneath and around him. She kept running, hair whipping into her eyes, never seeming to get any closer. "SVEN!"
Golden eyes flashing into her mind, cruel and accusatory. This is your fault.
An explosion of white feathers, increasing in number exponentially by the second, manifesting across her vision, blurring the world until all she could see was white. And yet, even still, she kept running.
She had to sa---
"Eve, Eve, wake up. Shhh it's okay, it was just a nightmare." Wide eyes staring down at her, kind and concerned and as golden as a cat's. "It's okay. You're safe. We're safe."
Her memory came back. They were in a hotel outside of a city. Her guardians were safe. She had saved Sven. Her eyes shot to Sven in the next bed, unconscious but alive. She could feel the gentle hum of nanomachines inside him, adapting to his body and fixing his wounds.
"You saved him Eve." And Train wrapped her in his arms and buried his head into her neck. Something told her that the gesture was to comfort and reassure him just as much as it was to reassure her.
"I guess-" she stopped, wondering if she should continue. "I guess we're really a family now." She closed her eyes and returned Train's embrace.
The tiny machines inside the three of them hummed in her ears in agreement.
