Chapter Two
"It's beautiful." Mika murmered as she spun around in the foyer. The entire place was empty. Our voices echoing off the walls was proof enough of that. I watched Mika, her face wrinkled slightly from the broad grin she had. Her hair swung around her and glittered in the light. She went into the giant sitting room, through the archway directly left of the foyer, and gasped. The sitting room's roof was made entirely of 6 inch sand glass, carved perfectly into 3'x9' panes, that were held in place by water proof peices of black oak.
The sun shone in Strongly and I laughed to myself. If only Bram Stoker could see what my kind could really do, I thought as Mika layed in the center of the room, staring at the clouds.
"Where's all the furniture?" Mika asked sitting up. i opened my mouth to answer but that turned into a smile as the doorbell rang. Mika got up and we both went to the door.
"I'm looking for a Mister Edward Johnathan Meyer. He has a pretty large delivery, are you that man?" A tall, young looking man asked, not looking up from a computerized clipboard. His hand moving vigorously across it, making marks here and ther on the screen.
"Aye, that would be me. Is this the furniture, the art, or the er...other thing?" I asked, the other thing referring to a giant redwood piano I had bought for Mika.
"It's everything. We had to bring three trucks. Where and when would you like us to start unloading?" The kid said handing the clipboard to me and the plastic stick I was supposed to sign with. I signed and pointed to the sitting room.
"We'll be out of your hair in no time sir." The kid, I no know as Matt (from his nametag), said. I stood aside letting him in and about twenty other people carrying boxes. Knowing the piano wouldn't fit in just one of the foyer doors, I opened the second and Mika and I helped them unload everything.
"Thank you for your time Mister Meyer." Matt said as I handed him a $100 tip. He smiled and nodded rushing down the stairs and leaving . In three minutes the U.P.S. trucks were gone.
"Ed..." Mika said from the sitting room. I closed the foyer doors and went to the sitting room. She was at the bench of the piano, her eyes misted, on the verge of crying. I went over to her quickly and hugged her close. She went rigid for a moment but then she was wrapping her arms around me, crying into my neck.
"It's perfect Ed...It's perfect..." She gasped breaking away and looking at the piano. She slid back the covering and placed her handy on the keys, then slowly, she began to play. It was a familiar song to us both. 'Hey Jude' lyrics ran through my head and sang out my mouth as she played the melody. It brought me back to that night five years ago when we first met.
Five Years Ago
Marke Davis' Bachelor Party
2004
9:00 p.m.
It was a simple job. Mika was wearing a low cut red dress and Ed was lusting for the kill. Just like her would any other night. Hook, Line, & Sinker.
- Hook
She saw him from across the sand. He was chatting with Marke, the bachelor inn question, but wasn't really into the conversation. It as the perfect time to go over and ask him to dance, maybe Mika would get lucky. That's right, come to mamma. Mika thought as Ed went over to her.
"You look lonely, bet you'd like to dance." Ed said, holding out his hand. Mika did without hesitation.
- Line
As they danced, the bachelor party crowd drifter farter down the beacj. Mika and Ed stayed behind ,their eyes locked, lips moving ceaselessly as they talked.
- Sinker
"here's my number, call me." Mika said writing her number on Ed's hand. After she wrote it, she stood on the tips of her toes and whey kissed. Ed got one taste of ehr and knew, as her promised to call her, that he wasn't lying.
