Not Quite Over It
A/n: This is in loving memory of those who died, those who saved, and those who were saved during the tradgedy of 9/11, and all of the hardships they face now.
He first registered heat, then a pain, then a growing pain. It stung, it burned, oh, god, how it burned...
Burned...
Fire! There was fire in there! Sasuke opened his eyes to the fire to his right. With a screech he scrambled up, then remembered to stop, drop, and roll. Funny how kindergarden things incorperated into... whatever the hell was going on.
Sasuke brought his hands up to his burned face, wailing in pain. He looked to his right to see practically the whole place on fire. He wasn't getting out of here anytime soon, and this was... this was...
Someone jumped. Sasuke's eyes widened as he watched them leave the window, and then... nothing. He couldn't hear anything but the fucking fire and his wails just kept getting louder. There was nothing, nothing anyone could do to get them out of there. They were going to die, they were going to die...
He looked down, gulped, and decided if he wasn't going to control the outcome, the terrorists had won. So, he jumped.
He awoke, screaming.
"Baby?"
His breathing and heart beat rapid, sweat poruing down his face, he turned to his lover and began to cry, clinging to him.
"Sasuke, it was only a dream, it's alright."
But it wasn't. Sasuke was gasping for air, not able to breathe, he sat there, firmly tense in Naruto's arms.
"Daddy?" A young girl's voice asekd, the door creaking open.
"Yes, Yuffie?"
"Is mommy alright?"
"Mommy just had a bad drean is all."
"Are you sure?" Thier son, Dameon, asked.
"Yes, I'm quite sure."
The twins left the room, still not completely reassured.
"Sasuke, calm down, please. The children are worried."
The raven sat up straight, catching his breath. He wringed his hands, getting ready for what he was about to say.
"I dreamed I didn't make it."
Naruto looke at his lover, sadness in his eyes.
"Sasuke, it's alright. You made it, it's fine."
Sasuke began to cry agaun, saying, "It's been twelve fucking years! I should be over this by now!" He slumped against his lover again.
"Sasuke, what happened twelve years ago was horrible, and you're not going to get over it. No one's expecting you to, no one ever has, and no one ever will. Can you remember that for me?"
Naruto brushed the hair off of the burned side of his lover's face, kissing it softly.
"Everything's alright. Everything is perfectly fine."
