"I'm going on a diet." The entire Gryffindor table immediately silenced and gaped at the person who spoke. A loud clatter of spoons and forks echoed around the Great Hall.
"You all heard me. No more plates full of sweets and meats. It's time for a change." Gasps and whispers erupted from the Hufflepuff table to the speaker's left. A couple teachers at the Gryffindor end of the room stared at them, nearly dropping their utensils.
"There has been a wizarding war. We have been doing the same things for eight years now. Some of us need to grow up and try new things." He glared pointedly at a few carefully selected students. Most of them looked down in shame or embarrassment.
One of the glared at people, Draco Malfoy, stood up. He cleared his throat and ignored the strange looks sent his way.
"As many of you know, I have not been the nicest person for all these years." Shouts of agreement came from different sides of the room. He nodded and began speaking again.
"Something some of you might not know, is that I have made amends with almost all of the people I have taken horrible actions against." Draco dipped his head at a few people. They nodded affirmative back. He clasped his hands together and sat down.
Everybody was silent at this point. They turned back toward the first speaker. He swallowed and spoke his last words for the hall.
"We all need to do something that makes us happy. Mine is not eating like a bloody pig. What is your change?" He sat down, content with his impromptu speech.
One by one, students from different tables went to other students and spoke. Confessions of love, dislike, jealousy, and much more flew through the room.
At the Gryffindor table, Ron Weasley sat, pleased at the reaction his little change started. He stared down at the offending salad in front of him. Its greenness stared back. He stabbed his fork into it and took a bite. It wasn't all bad. The bright smile from Hermione made every bite worth it.
