Author's Note: All right kids, here we go again. Sasuke wasn't supposed to come out all angsty, but it's just how he ended up. I had no control over it whatsoever. Okay, yeah, so I might have been listening to some sad depressing songs whilst I was writing, but I'm SURE that that had nothing to do with this. anyways, do enjoy.

Something stirred in Sasuke's mind. It was morning. Sunlight peeked through the blinds, throwing its rays upon his face, disrupting him from his slumber. He opened his eyes and stared up at the ceiling, wishing in vain for the sun to go back down. Sighing, he looked at Sakura, who was sleeping peacefully against him. As Sasuke reached down to brush a stray strand of hair from her face, she moved around restlessly in her sleep, disturbed by his movements. Sasuke stayed frozen in place and breathed a sigh of relief when she settled back down.
"That was close…I should go…"
"But you know you want to stay…" A voice said inside his head, a voice that Sasuke had learned very well to ignore. But lately, it had gotten harder and harder to push these thoughts away, especially now, with Sakura right next to him...
At night, it was so much easier to fool himself into thinking that he could be the person Sakura thought him to be. Under the cover of darkness, Sasuke opened up and told her what he felt. He was sensitive and caring. He would hold her close and lose himself in her. He could slip into the role of being her "Sasuke-kun," the golden child, the perfect man who was unable to do any wrong. He could pretend that he was the right one for her, could persuade himself that they could make this relationship work, that her heart wouldn't fall to pieces when she saw the kind of person he really was. Maybe, just maybe… the next morning was the morning that he wouldn't leave. Maybe he would stay, be there when she woke up… be the first person she sees. But come morning… come morning, all his fears came back to suffocate him. Sasuke no longer had anything to hide his faults behind. This was the single, overwhelming fear that always drove him to leave Sakura and the warmth of the bed in the mornings: with all of himself, all his flaws out in the open, he could no longer lie to himself. When faced with all his gaping imperfections, he saw how much he lacked, how little he had to offer her. It tore at his heart to have to leave Sakura every morning without a word or explanation, but he couldn't take the chance… couldn't take the chance that she might wake up and look at him with those eyes of hers… those eyes that caused his heart to melt away…
Sighing, he closed his eyes and looked deep within himself, searching to see if he could find anything, anything to assure himself that he wouldn't end up breaking her heart… but he knew it was a lost cause. He was just fooling himself. So he slipped quietly out of the bed, careful not to wake her. Moving about without a sound with practiced ease, Sasuke put on his shirt and climbed out the window… pausing once only to look back at Sakura with a look of regret in his eyes before he was gone.

For those of you who haven't read Intricate and Odd, this is the couple fic to it. It really doesn't matter which one you read first, cause they're INTERCHANGEABLE like that. But yeah, if you haven't read it, do feel free to do so.
