Hey everyone. This is for the Chocolate Truffle Craze Challenge on Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I wrote for Caramel this time. The task was to write for the pairing of Molly/Arthur. This little idea popped into my head and wouldn't leave me alone. I hope you all enjoy Promises of a Bright Future.
I smile dreamily as he talks about his plans for our future nodding every once and a while to show that I am listening. I really am listening what Arthur has to say but he does tend to dream big.
"One day we'll be set, babe," Arthur was telling me reaching out and taking my hand. "I know it might not seem like it right now. What with the war going on and all that but we'll have our day in the sun."
I nodded. I didn't want to ruin his optimistic state. How could anything get better when good men and women, like my brothers Gideon and Fabian and our friend Marlene McKinnon, were killed for protecting Muggles and Muggle-borns.
"Things may seem dark right now, Moll," Arthur told me, "but we will get through this." He paused in thought. I could see that there was more that he wanted to say.
"You aren't going to propose to me again?" I asked blushing heavily as I looked him in the eye.
Arthur pulled out a ring from his pocket and nodded. "Now I want you to let me say my peace before you say anything else," he said looking me straight in the eyes. This what he usually did when he was in a serious mood. "Alright?"
I nodded as though to say that he could continue.
"I know in this climate that not much is promised to us, Molly," he began, "and that either one of us can be gone for good. And it scares me to know that at any moment you could be taken out of my life by one of the Death Eaters. Or I could be taken out of your life. But I don't want to live a life of what could have beens or what should have beens. Like Sirius Black. I want to live our lives to the fullest and I can not imagine any other way to do that than by marrying to love of my life." He took a deep breath and held the ring out to me. "Will you marry me, Molly Prewett and make me the happiest man in the world for as long as we have each other?"
I looked at him taking in everything that Arthur Weasley had just said. I looked at the ring he held out to me. It was a nice sized diamond one knew he couldn't afford on his Ministry salary.
I nodded. "Yes," I said. "I will. But..."
He saw where my eyes were resting as he put the ring on my finger. "Don't worry about it," he told me. "It was my great Gran's engagement ring. Mum gave it to me when I told her I wanted to propose to you."
I smiled as I looked down at the ring that symbolized Arthur's love for me and promise of a bright future ahead of us.
I hope you all enjoyed Promises of a Bright Future.
