Pasts become dark shadows on the wall,

and yet nothing could taint this nearly as well as their pasts tried to

Being scared of foxes made loving one a strange thing,

and she couldn't help how she learned to not hold herself back from this, whatever it was

Judy had learned the true meaning of love with every scar of his,

and every broken down moment of hers.

Learning to love a bunny, prey, was not easy when you grew up learning just how inferior prey can treat you

He still had days when he woke up from nightmares since they got together,

that she'd leave him

or that her words or actions might cut far deeper than just being left behind

When you have next to no one your whole life,

you learn to fear the worst

and try to cling to those that you love

once they sneak past your walls around your heart, mistakes and all of theirs.

A fox loving a bunny is not nearly as easy as breathing,

nor as easy as air,

the bunny is just as unsure of herself

as the fox is over his own self.

Learning to love a fox as a bunny is not easy especially when a fox used to bully you,

when you learned from a young age that foxes are dangerous

and that you should fear them

She learned once upon a time ago that foxes were cold and brutal

and that fox repellent could save the day

and yet learning in Zootopia that she was supposed to carry it around,

that foxes were sly and devious,

made loving one sometimes nervewracking as they began,

and yet the nightmares of him leaving her, of him becoming what Gideon Gray once was,

left her chilled to the bone.

Loving a bunny as a fox

when you were taught that all prey hated predators,

when your hopes and dreams were once dashed by that very same prey,

when all that you had was a mom and a million dreams that felt impossible didn't make it any easier,

but every reassurance and bright smile,

every warm hug and every loving kiss

made it just a little bit easier.

Loving a fox as a bunny

became much easier when you saw every heartfelt smile,

true to the bone,

often hidden behind sarcasm and the wall around his heart

actually shine through

and through every joke and loving pat on the head

or affectionate nickname

Once Nick loved,

you truly felt it.

Loving each other often meant that they had to deal with sarcasm,

cold words,

difficult to ignore instincts,

and painful arguments

They fought like bunnies and foxes did,

which probably made more sense than not,

arms thrown up in the air,

instincts barely held back,

stubborn pride,

and frustration as they fought to avoid just throttling each other,

but every time they forgave made every argument more tolerable,

every nervous hug or cuddle or apologetic kiss

meant the world.

Instincts were tough business to deal with,

when they went against all that you known,

the instincts that were fermented by trials and difficulties in life,

and the ones that you were born with

They learned to love so much more beyond everything that told them that they can't.
