The pop shatters the cold, taciturn night air as easily as a hammer to a pane of glass.
The female ghoul lies at his feet, her limbs bent at odd angles. The trails of blood highlight her face, her skin even more pale behind the crimson streaks. Her once kakugan eyes, reverted to their original appearance, blankly stare into his own.
Pop.
He turns away from her uncomprehending stare and glares at the cloudy night sky. He presses his thumb to the next finger.
Pop.
Once, not very long ago, he would have been disgusted at the thought of hurting—much less murdering—a living being, innocent or not.
But pain makes people transform into what they despise.
This ghoul and human hybrid fought against himself so much, he demolished himself. He was as broken inside as the deceased ghoul lying at his feet, another result of his senselessness.
He stared up at the dark and cloudy sky. Dark and unpredictable. Reckless and uncanny. The stars, the personality trapped inside of him, hidden by the dark web of clouds, the person who had taken over. A mirror of himself.
"Glassy Sky,
The cold,
The broken pieces of me."
I'm sorry if this isn't as good as you guys expected, I don't have much experience writing these kinds of things.
This was inspired by the song from Tokyo Ghoul, "Glassy Sky." I used it because I thought it described Kaneki well.
I just finished reading the Fifth Wave Trilogy, so forgive me if I made any mistakes, as I'm trying to change my writing style to sound a bit like Rick Yancey's.
Please tell me what you guys think! I haven't written anything since February, so my writing skills may be a little off point, but I'll get better.
