Yea! So I haven't forgotten about 'it was supposed to be fun,' I just needed a break. So this lovely one-shot was born. Enjoy!

Disclaimer: I own nothing but a rabbit. Any references to the song 'A thousand years' by Christina Perri I also do not own.

Heart beats fastColors and promises

He will forever remember the dance they shared that night. She could tell you all she wanted that their relationship began that night on the roof top where he had first kissed her. But they both were in silent agreement that it had all started that night. Everything. It was all so surreal.

The roof-top was simply finalizing what he had taken so long to try and put in place without fully admitting his love for her. He really had intended to come back with those drinks.

How to be brave, how can I love when I'm afraid to fall, but watching you stand alone, all of my doubt suddenly goes away somehow, one step closer.

She really had no idea how he managed to do it. The press, since he was kid. You would think he enjoyed it by the cockiness he possessed and used in stride with everything that attacked him. It was until after he released that he was Iron Man and had nearly died from palladium poisoning and moved in with him did she witness firsthand what it really did to him.

After the Avengers an anxiety attack every now and then was not unusual for him. She stuck by his side no matter what, always there to comfort him when no one else was. She even had Happy watching him when she was in meetings just so she could make sure that he got the help that he refused to seek.

It wasn't until the press really began to question the Avengers when she started to notice that the attacks when from rare to almost every night. No matter how hard she tried to get them the satisfaction they wanted on the 'worm-hole matter' they always pressed for more. She was helpless but took the questions in stride and stood tall for him when he couldn't do it himself.

It was her little gift for him. Little things like, attend some of his meetings for him (especially when they were pertaining to the Avengers), make his favorite breakfast more often; listen to his rants about his latest creation even though she was completely lost. Just the little things. But she was sure it was making a difference, especially when they stopped happening so frequently.

And all along I believed I would find you, time had brought your heart to me, I have loved you for a thousand years, I'll love you for a thousand more.

He sat up in bed, watching her sleep, when sleep wouldn't come. He knew nightmares would no longer plague him, the weight of the arc reactor no longer in his chest, but tonight sleep simply would not come. But he stayed. Wondering what he had done to deserve someone like her and silently praying God would tell him what so that he could do it again for her.

He wondered if she had ever loved him before Afghanistan had happened. Maybe she was only in love with the new him. He didn't know. He honestly didn't care, he had her now and that's all that mattered in his peaceful world.

He wondered when he would propose to her, if she would ask him instead since they had broken so many traditional rules anyways. It was things like this that was keeping him awake now but he still didn't mind.

He had loved her for years and watched bloom under the wing of his company for over ten years. It didn't matter if she only felt the same way now, they were together. They would be together forever he decided. Even if he was forced to wait a thousand years for her.

Tell me what you think because I want to know! Read and review thanks so much! Thinking this is just a one-shot but if you want me to add on I can. IDK. We'll see how it goes.

Thanks again,
