A Star Wars Christmas Eve
T'was the night before Christmas, and all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mynock.
The stockings were hung by the heater with care
In hopes that Christmas day soon would be there.
The Jedi were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of lightsabers danced in their heads.
And my mom in her PJs, and I in my wrap
Had just settled down for a long winter's nap.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.
Away to my window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the curtains with too loud a smash.
The moonlight shimmered on the new-fallen ice
It was an ice rink out there and almost looked nice.
Then, what to my wondering eyes! On the lawn
Was a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny tauntauns.
With a little old driver, so lively and green,
I knew in a moment it must be Yoda.
More rapid than nexu his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;
"Now Qui-Gon! Now Nomi! Now Windu and Mundi!
On Obi! On Trebor! On Plo Koon and Shaak Ti!
To the top of the porch with you! To the top of the wall!
Now away you dash! Dash away! Dash away all!"
As starlight right before the jump to hyperspace fly,
When you meet with an obstacle, you mount to the sky.
So up to the house-top with coursers they flew
With a sleigh full of toys and Master Yoda too.
And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The pawing of feet and tauntauns acting like goofs.
And as I rolled my eyes and was turning around,
Through the window Master Yoda came with a bound.
He was dressed like Santa from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a smuggler just opening his pack.
His eyes—they were bright green! His laugh was so merry!
His cheeks were like green apples, and he looked so weary!
His green little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the last of his hair was as white as the snow.
The stump of a cane he held tight in his hand,
He looked ridiculous; not to laugh I couldn't stand.
He had a small face and long, green pointed ears
That twitched and moved and conveyed his expression clear.
He was short and cute, a rather odd elfin,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself.
A wink of an eye and a twitch of his head
Soon gave me to know that I needn't not fret.
A lightsaber for me, for Mom a toy Ewok,
He filled all the stockings with all their due stock.
And closed his eyes, sighed, and wrinkled his green nose,
And giving a nod, through the window he rose.
He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like an Imperial missile.
And I heard him exclaim as he drove out of sight,
"A Merry Christmas you will have and to all a good-night!"
