Through terrifying centuries of rule by another nation,
They gained the right to be a country of their own.
The land, though larger then most, scarcely populated,
An even larger empire decided it was time to invade.
For almost the whole of a hundred years,
They let the other rule, yet not complete.
When the empire tried to assimilate,
Then grew discontent.
By the first world war did the empire fall.
On December 6th of 1917, did the so called
Senate declare independence. And so,
with a new leader, was the nation born.
With a civil war did the nation fight
for its own honour. Army split with two
different colours. With Red and white
did the two halves terrorize.
When white guards won, the losses were
great. By 1920, the new country had joined
the league of nations. The 20s and 30s, times
of uncertainty, had been the focus.
With old red guards, full of thoughts of revenge,
did they try to assassinate the former white guard's
chief leader-in-command.
Within a few years,now 1939, did the Winter War begin.
The two groups fighting for their own rights,
One to take the nation back, to join their socialist union.
The other, to keep their strength as a nation.
Attack on November 30th, deemed ilegal,
The Socialst union cast out of the League of nations.
Through the months of battles did they fight.
Only to come to peace, on the 13th of March.
Though called the one-hundred-five day war,
With only a fifteen month pause of peace.
it continued for thirteen months Only to
be resolved by a long treaty.
By the end of the Winter war,
and the Continuation war,
did the two fueding entities finally retreat.
