At night his heart races. He cannot run. He cannot hide as he relives his nightmare. Every sensation comes back; the warmth of his family's blood on his skin, soaking and staining through his school uniform. The cries. The pleas for mercy. They all play back painfully. His innocent heart was taken that day. Everything he believed, everything he wanted to believe, everything was a lie.

Finally, as he looks upon the dead bodies whose faces seem to all but blurs, Raikou turns to look over his shoulder to see not his sister but Gau. That's where the dream turns for the worse: The day he found Gau, his best friend; his second chance. He stares down at the then thirteen years old seeing possible proof that his mother was wrong. Proof that two worlds needed each other.

As Raikou reaches out for that hope, the wind blows and the field of spider lilies where the Shimizu Clan once stood appears. These lilies surround Gau and drip of his blood. The brush of the hand cooling from death quickly as life spills more and more will finally bring him to tears. Everything he believed, everything he wanted, everything was gone.

Soon he's standing in a pool of blood surrounded by darkness. Every tear that falls represents anguish he placed on another. As one reaches the ground, it scatters and joins pain he was chained to. Raikou tries to run only to slip and fall hard into the throbbing agony he created. He screams and everyone laughs. Bodies begin to form from the stained ground, and as his mother stands at the front of the pack - Gau will step between them. They all stop. The boy turns around, his wound scarred over, yet he's still smiling.

"Raikou-san. We won't leave your side, ever. We love you. I love you. Please, stop this."

"I-," he'll start to only choke on his own air. This is the part where he'd wake up. Something was off though. He reached over to a warm body curled up next to him. Raikou thanked the darkness for once for hiding his eyes stung with tears at this moment. Gently, he shook Gau. He grunted in protest to wake up. The young man couldn't help but softly laugh his tears away. He lays back down, pulling the boy into his arms. "Thank you."
