Tenten panted slightly, trying to catch her breath as Neji regarded her coolly. Her hands were on her knees for support while the Hyuuga Genius stood in a defensive stance, beckoning her to come at him. It was near noon and the pair were still training.
Tenten looked up again and found the clearing she stood in empty. But that wasn't surprising; she had let her guard down by accident. Hearing a rustle in the bush behind her, she smiled slightly and jumped up into the air, performing Soushouyru. To her dismay, she missed her target and instead found herself held with a kunai to her neck once she landed on the ground.
"You've been careless today," Neji told her, releasing the Chinese girl from his hold.
"No way," Tenten brushed it off, "Your eyes are deceiving you, Hyuuga." A small smile graced her lips again when she saw the amused expression on his normally passive face.
He stepped closer to her unconsciously, "What's wrong Tenten?"
She blushed a little and shook her head.
How could she tell him what was on her mind? He'd probably laugh at her; as out of character as it would seem for him. Tenten liked him a lot and was quite sure that he felt the same way. But something was just missing between them.
She saw all those other couples like Hinata and Naruto or even Sakura and Sasuke and it just all seemed so different compared to her and Neji.
Naruto may have been loud and hyper most of the time, but when it came to relationships, he was incredibly shy and even dense. But Hinata's relationship with him was just so damn cute!
Even Sakura seemed to have better luck at getting Sasuke to open up to her. Tenten would even occasionally see them walking down the street with their hands intertwined.
Tenten sighed, why did she have to fall for the stoic Hyuuga? Even when she was small, she'd always dreamt of a fairy-tale like relationship, with her knight in shining armour.
"This is exactly what I meant." She heard as she snapped back to reality. Looking up, she found Neji smirking at her.
"Huh? What did you say?" she shook away her previous thoughts. This was Hyuuga after all, she couldn't have expected him to come out and declare his love for her publicly.
"Nevermind," he shook his head.
"So, feel like going to Ichiraku's?" Tenten suggested.
"Sure."
She fell in step beside him as they strolled casually down the streets of Konoha. It was busy during noon when workers bustled in and out to grab something to eat then return to work.
Normally, she be attempting to start a conversation with him, but today Tenten was quiet. And Neji noticed this.
"Tenten." He said.
"Hm? Yeah?" she glanced at him.
"Are you sure you're alright?" he asked. Tenten smiled at his concern, "I'm perfectly fine." She told him.
Neji gave her a look that clearly said that he didn't believe her, but didn't say anything else.
She shook her head in amusement, it was rare that Neji would show a lot of concern for her; and it were these moments that she treasured the most.
Adding a little natural bounce to her step from her happiness, she swung her arms back and forth childishly until she felt another hand come in contact with hers and grasped it in a firm hold.
Looking down, she found her hand being held in Neji's. She looked to his face and found it to be the same passive expression. Trying to hide her grin, she squeezed his larger hand in an affectionate gesture.
Maybe all was not lost.
