Summary: She ran, feeling that was all she could do. Zuffie

There Once, But Never Again

----

"Maybe I was wrong…what I was looking for was right in front on my eyes all along."

----

Yuffie tightly wrapped her arms around a white metal pole and stared off into the distance. Her eyes were centered on one thing, one person.

Zack.

He was the type of guy that everyone liked; everyone got along with. Just seeing him so far away made her heart ache even more. He was far away in sight and in spirit.

She unraveled her arms and left the school grounds in a daze. Of course school was still in session, but she didn't care. She had to many on things on her mind.

The one guy she liked, the only one that kept her living another day was Zack, her best-friend, companion, whatever you wish to call it - and nothing more.

She couldn't take the pain of watching him day after day with other girls and such, not anymore. Yuffie whipped around and bolted off into the forest behind the school. She knew in her heart that a good friend was all she would ever be to him.

…Best F r I e n d s.

I'll find you somewhere

I'll Keep on trying

The forest seemed to curve in around her, not letting escape.

Good, just what she wanted.

"Zack, forgive me for everything…" She reached into her pocket and pulled out a sharp pocket knife and ran her slim fingers along its' sharp edge.

A single tear fell from her eye as she brought the sharp blade above her head, ready to strike at any second.

"I'm sorry…" She readied the knife and aimed it at her heart with closed eyes. In seconds she sent it flying into her. But one problem.

The pain never came.

"Wha-" Her puffy, watery eyes looked above to see two warm hands clasped around her cold ones.

It was the last person she wanted to see.

"Zack…let me go…I need to do this," she whispered into the soft wind that lightly caressed her cheek.

Until my dying day

I just need to know

"No." She could feel his hands close tighter on hers.

"But I have to-"

"No…You don't." He took the knife from her grasp and threw it across the area. He kneeled down in front of her and took her chin in his hand, pointing it so that it looked up at him.

"I don't belong here."

"Why not?" She tried to look away but his grasp was to tight around her.

"Leave me be...to die. It's what I deserve…what I want." Anger started to creep into her words. "I have no-one."

Zack shook his head. "Wrong answer." He leaned over and wrapped his strong muscled arms around her, brining her closer to him. "You have me."

She blinked away her tears and smiled.

Whatever will happen

The truth will free my soul
