"I gave my life for you and only you"
"My dear sweet misunderstood Prince…"
The God had insisted that he be allowed to fight alongside his Prince. There would be no changing his mind and he would not show any sort of affection until he was given the right to bear arms in the name of the Prince of Wales, his lover, his Hal. With much reluctance he was given that right and armor was made for him to ware. He was given a sword and shield even if he would not be using them. Hal just wanted to be sure his Trickster would make it through each battle alive and well.
Rebel forces were popping up like wild fires and amassing in strength and size as each day passed. The King's troops were spread thin and far to combat those that wished to overthrow him. So far Hal and Loki had been lucky. They hadn't seen much conflict, having been attacked to a reinforcement unit. They arrived usually just after a battle and would have to count the dead. But all that would change when they were ambushed by a large and formidable force.
War cries broke the silence that had been settling in and all hell broke loose. Men came pouring out of the forest that flanked each side of the dirt road. Swords clashed and bodies were slammed into each other. Hal was separated from Loki in the scuffle as men tried to get better angles of attack on their opponents. The swinging of steel and the hacking of flesh were the only sounds that greeted the Prince's ears as he called out for his lover.
The Rebels that had attacked them were severely outnumbered and no match for the Prince's battalion. They were dropping like flies in a spray of blood and steel. As things started to wind down and Hal resumed his search for Loki. Unaware to him was a badly wounded enemy limping his way. The man made one final charge and screamed "Down with the King!" as he drew closer to the Prince. Hal's reaction to this attack was far too slow and Loki knew this. He had been keeping watch over his lover while the battle raged on. Seeing no other way of stopping the death of the Prince, he summoned up all of his magical energy into one last teleportation spell.
In a brief flash he reappeared in front of the charging man and his blade drove its self through the Trickster's gut. Everything that had lead up to this point had taken a mere ten seconds. Hal had just finished turning and bringing his sword up when he saw the God gutted right before him. In a fit of rage he impaled the enemy soldier through his throat and shoved his lifeless body away. Hal dropped to his knees and pulled Loki's body onto his lap. He knew just how weak the God's magic had been and that he wouldn't have enough strength to keep himself alive.
Loki was more mortal than he had lead Hal to believe. Tears streamed down his cheeks as the God smiled and placed a shaky hand on his chest. He mouthed the words 'I love you' before the life left his eyes and his soul departed the mortal realm. The Prince cried out in pain and sorrow as he pressed his face to Loki's chest and sobbed. The battle was over, they had won… But was it really worth it? Hal had lost the love of his life who had willingly given up own in service of the King, England, and the Prince he had come to care for.
"You were my one and only… Our relationship earned through trials and hard work."
"I promised I'd be with you forever. Even if it meant I could never truly be a God again."
"Never again will I love another, for my heart belonged to you. Now you are gone and I must carry on alone. Watch over my Loki, my God, my fallen Prince."
