As they laughed, he could see her eyes far away, thinking of something – or someone – else.
"Hey," she said, not bothering to call him by his nickname and looking far into the distance, "I'll talk to you later, okay?"
He murmured a passive "okay" as she ran away. How beautiful.
She was his love, unknown to all.
She ran to him, laughing, her red hair streaming out from behind her.
He saw James, that arrogant prat, catching her in his arms, laughing with her, calling her name. He kissed her on the cheek. That Sirius Black pretended to play the violin as they laughed and danced together.
He couldn't take it any longer. He swept angrily away. She, hearing the noise, looked at him leaving. The light left her eyes. She called for him to wait.
He did not wait.
He watched them fall in love.
He watched them get married.
He watched them have a child.
He watched them die.
He watched them, alone.
But then again, serpents always were solitary.
He had his mother's eyes...
