AN: You know, it's annoying how often certain prompts seem to pop up. Overall they're not so bad but I'd like random to be a bit more varied some days. Okay, enough talking, on with the story...

I was in the attic. I had no choice. That monster of a canine from next door had broken loose again.
It isn't my attic. It's my uncle's, well technically it's my cousin's since she inherited it. I'm house sitting. Sort of. Alright, I fled here from my house because of the dog. Nasty mutt, scaring me for no good reason.
I look around. There's lots of stuff here, junk, whatnot. Many things catch my eye, the first interesting one is a portrait of a snake-lady, a lamia sitting long forgotten against the far wall, a layer of dust obscuring the detail.
Another stroll and I find a crate of whiskey. Various small token bottles of all the world's favourite brands and tinier-still bottles of the most expensive.
There's a stuffed something. A, I dunno. For some reason it's missing it's head. Why would someone behead a stuffed animal? I move on.
Suddenly I hear noises outside. Barking.
Please no. Don't let that urban menace have followed me here too. I should mention that I'm only thirteen. And wimpy. Or so my brother likes to tell me. Often.
The barking subsides and I breathe again. I continue my casual walk around the large, dusty attic. I wonder how often anyone comes up here. Probably not very. Probably years.
Could do with an upgrade. Shut up, not my place to say.
I notice suddenly that there's a raven watching me. And I mean watching me. It seems very, I don't know, human?
It flys away after a short staring contest which it, of course, won.
I stand for a moment thinking about it before I put it out of my mind.
I walk around a bit more before I hear footsteps on the stairs, I realise I'm about to be discovered.
Hide or confess?
I choose hide.
She'll find me anyway but this is more me.
The door opens. I hear someone walk in. And another, quieter steps.
I sneak a peek from my hiding place.
What the-? Is that a skeleton in a suit?
AN: Yeah... in case you can't tell, the cousin/uncle are meant to be Valkyrie/Gorden. That's all.
AN: This one-shot along with the one-shot "The monkey and the wolf" is soon to be part of the first chapter of a multi-chaptered fic called "It's been a long day"
