AN: It occurs to me that no one seems to have done Mevolent/Valkyrie or Mevolent/Darquesse. Maybe not the best or most believable pairing but surely a lot of fun. No? Just me?

The sun was high in the sky. Bright, white and burning.

Now it wasn't.

She sat on the cold, damp grass staring up at the moon. So far no one had spotted her since she'd shunted eight hours ago. Quite an achievement all things considered, she thinks. She wasn't hiding. She just didn't want to find out how pissed off Mevolent would be with her after last time.

A raven flew low past her line of vision, drawing Valkyrie out of her thoughts.

Bored, she stood up and looked around. There was something moving in the distance, something not human.

It's night, she told herself, vampires come out at night. Maybe it's a vampire.

Oh shit! Maybe it's a vampire.

Edging away quietly but quickly towards cover, Valkyrie pulled her phone from her pocket. The screen flashed once then died. Stupid battery, Valkyrie thought.

The creature was getting closer, she could almost make it out now.

Ah...

... Not a vampire.

More of a wolf.

Guess werewolves aren't as extinct here as they are at home. Valkyrie thought to herself before opting to turn and run anyway. The memory of the last werewolf she'd met popping to the forefront of her mind.

Not worth it, she told herself, just keep out of its way.

She turned a corner, entering a village pub.

It was quiet. Too quiet.

She turned.

Oh, that would be why.

"Hello Valkyrie." Mevolent said. "I'd heard you were around here somewhere."

"Been looking for me have you?" Valkyrie asked more confident than she felt.

Mevolent laughed. "Of course." He turned. "I have a present for you..."

Valkyrie braced, expecting plain while knowing running would be pointless. Oh well, at least Darquesse would have some fun.

/Yes. Let me out./ A voice whispered in the back of her mind. Valkyrie ignored it.

She looked at Mevolent.

He had a small monkey on his arm.

Valkyrie frowned. He's giving me a monkey?

Mevolent laughed again. "She's been named Valkyrie. A beautiful little creature that causes more chaos than she's worth."

Valkyrie fought down a blush.

"Personally I prefer the original. He finished.

The blush rose unbidden.

Huh, guess he likes women who can beat him up.

AN: The monkey was a bit random wasn't it?

AN: This one-shot along with the one-shot "Dog on the loose" is soon to be part of the first chapter of a multi-chaptered fic called "It's been a long day"
