All Cole Must Burn

"Tell me again why we have to be digging in a mine?" Jay asked.

"Because that's where Light Matter is. Sensei wants us to harvest some in case any dark being decides they want to start using Dark Matter from the Ores on the Dark Island." Cole explained.

"But Lloyd's the only one who can touch it or else it explodes. How are we going to be able to use it?" Zane questioned.

"I dunno. Let's just get it and go. It's hot out here." Lloyd whined.

Cole-with his element being Earth- used his sword to dig down to the cavern where the golden crystals rested. The others slide down the tunnel behind him. They were struck with awe at the sight of the light on the walls.

"Got the bucket?" Kai asked and Zane handed him it.

Lloyd carefully plucked the crystals from the wall and when he placed them in the bucket they became deactivated. Once the bucket was full of those golden beauties Kai began climbing back up with Jay in pursuit. Zane and Lloyd started to climb together. Cole was going to seal up the cave so that nobody else would be able to find or mine from it.

Cole used his sword to make a barrier around the cavern and was wary not to touch any of the Light Matter. He examined his work with victory. Another job done, more to go in the future. He then began to climb back up the tunnel when he slipped. Cole didn't notice how his foot barely brushed the golden crystalline surface.

"I wonder what's taking Cole so long. Maybe he stopped for donuts?" Jay asked while they waited.

"He did say he was going to seal up the cavern. Maybe he's taking extra pre-" But Lloyd was cut off by a loud explosion and flames shot from the tunnel.

"COLE!" They shouted in unison before rushing towards what resembled a volcano.

They listened for the reply of their friend, assuring them that he was alright and they just hadn't seen him when he exited. There was no assurance. Something smoky landed where Kai had stood moments before. He rushed over and picked up the still half blazing sword of Cole.

"NO!" He shouted into Earth's face before sticking the sword into the ground to make a sort of grave.

Zane fell to the ground and hammered it with his fist. Lloyd was weeping. Jay was staring in disbelief at what all was left of his friend.

"That's taking the saying 'All coal must burn' to a new level." He said defeated, sinking to the ground.

Author's Note: I have nothing against Cole. He's one of my first favorite characters. This is part of a request from ZaneWalker, so thank them for this one-shot. Thank you. Oh, and I made up Light Matter, feel free to use it in your own stories whoever wants to.
