**This fanfic is set in a universe where Leonard and Penny were never in a relationship but are really close friends:
He turned the handle slowly revealing an emotionally broken Bernadette sitting on the floor against the end of her bed. What unfolded? They were having such a good time eating and laughing hosting Christmas at their new house for the first time then with the snap of his fingers the mood changed and somehow Bernadette and Howard got into a huge fight that caused Bernadette to tell Howard that she can't do it anymore. It had been a long time coming and he'd noticed all of the little things build up until they exploded. Leonard shut the door and sat down next to her, back also against the end of the bed, and put his arm around her, rubbing her arm in a comforting way. She rested her head on his shoulder and wept. He wrapped his other arm around her and rested his chin on her head. "Hey, Bernadette," he said, "You're going to be fine." She peered up, her face damp from tears and built up emotion translating through her eyes. He tilted his head slightly towards her and she slowly closed the gap. Her lips were soft and gentle. He cupped his hand on her cheek, emotion flaring while their embrace got more intense. He pulled away and pecked her again, "It's always been you. You're beautiful. You're smart. You're funny. What more could a guy want?" She smiled through her watery eyes and put her head back on his shoulder…
