Prompt: 90s songs — "No Matter What", by Boyzone

No matter what they teach us
What we believe is true...

Draco had never believed that his father's views were right. He had gone along with it to avoid a beating, but he didn't truly see Muggle-borns as below him. Especially since Hermione Granger had beaten all of his scores — and his father had hired the best tutors in the world.

He had been raised to believe that everything that came out of his father's mouth was pure gold and always true.

Hah!

Lucius believed that Muggle-borns were stealing the magic from Purebloods.

That those born to Muggle parents were weaker than Purebloods — he even had proof!

Lucius believed in arranged marriages.

That inbreeding was the best way to keep the bloodline pure.

Draco believed in none of that.

He believed that magic had enough to go around.

He believed that Muggles had all descended from Squibs, and the magic gene awakened every-so-often to birth a Muggle-born.

He believed in marrying for love.

He believed that inbreeding was actually making more and more Squibs instead of keeping the bloodline pure.

He did not believe his father.

He didn't agree with his father's views. What could he do about it? He was not of age, so he couldn't just leave. He could behave so poorly that they would have no choice but to turn him out onto the streets and erase all evidence of him from the family archives.

But what good would that do?

Then he would just be homeless, with no money and no way of helping other Purebloods see that Muggles were actually good for the Wizarding population.

So he decided to bide his time.
