Secret
"Why?" he said,
Into the night,
His life now fading fast.
He slipped away,
Without a word,
When he barely had a past.
He sees the minds,
And feels the hearts,
Of all who cross his way.
He feels their pain,
And knows their hate,
They do not need to say.
He sleeps a most,
Unquiet sleep,
His nightmares take his dreams.
He may seem cold,
And more distant still,
But not all is what it seems.
He cries inside,
For he has seen,
The terrors of the dark.
What he has seen,
Has trapped his soul,
And slowly stopped his heart.
He now guides souls,
And leads their way,
But no one can really know.
How he lost his past,
To this slow curse,
And how it still haunts him so.
