AN: Hello all. Just so you know, this has nothing to do with my other story, but I suppose it could. This would be set in 5th or 6th year.

THIS IS A ONESHOT. I wrote this because I'm having a bit of writers block with my other story, and the idea would not go away. And I had an extra 20 minutes.

Disclaimer: I own nothing that you recognize.

As Bad As I Thought?

"I'll be right back, I forgot my book!" Lily yelled back to her friends as they entered the Hall for dinner.

She walked along the hallways, her shoes clicking against the stone floor. Suddenly, she heard a slight commotion.

"Evans… mudblood… git…" Lily could only hear every other word. Intrigued, she followed the sound of the boy's voice until she saw who it was. It did not surprise her much, unfortunately.

Severus had always been an extremely intelligent boy, and Lily always had been disappointed that he refused to use this for anything good. He walked around with that creepy bunch of people, threatening first year's and hurling hexes at any students who were not, in their words, "worthy to carry a wand."

Lily peered around the corner a little more to see who he was talking to. There in the hall stood two black-haired boys.

"Take that back," James growled. Lily was surprised to find true rage on James' face. "You don't know her. How dare you make some kind of an assumption about her?" His voice was gaining volume with each word. "All she has ever done is stand up for you! So take it back, or so help me-"

"Prongs, bring it down a bit. We don't need more trouble," Sirius told him quietly, tugging on his sleeve and bringing him away from Snape slightly.

The scrawny boy saw a window of opportunity and went sprinting down the hall, away from the two boys who could definitely beat him in a duel.

James swore when he saw what had happened. "That slime! He doesn't know anything about Lily Marie Evans, yet he calls her a worthless mudblood! And do you know what's worse?"

Sirius rolled his eyes, having heard a similar rant from his best friend almost three times a week, every week, for several years. "She defends him?" he asked, rolling his gray eyes.

"She defends him!" James cried and threw his arms up in frustration. "And then gets mad at me for trying to defend her! I don't think she understands the full extant of what these people can do!"

"I know, mate," Sirius nodded, his eyes and tone surprisingly serious. He started to pull James down the hall. "Let's go get food."

Lily's eyes were large.

I always thought that he just stood up for me to show off. He does this all the time? He must be ill. He's acting as if he actually cares for me! And everyone knows that that's a joke.

Lily shook her head slightly, moving on to her dormitory and grabbing her book. She knew that what she had just witnessed would cause her a lot of thinking. Like the thought that was running through her head for the rest of the day: Is Potter as bad as I thought that he was?
