Summary: Voldemort discovers that the prophesy is not all it's cracked up to be. His response is a bit…unusual.

Trelawney's Truths

"Are you telling the truth, Lucius?" Voldemort asked silkily.

Lucius nodded, and replied quaveringly, "Yes, m'Lord. The prophesy is a fake."

Voldemort looked pensive. "So what you're saying is that I have been torturing this poor Potter lad for years over a lie? I left him without parents to be possibly horribly abused by his nasty Muggle family because of a falsehood? He might currently be being raped by his piggish uncle because the prophesy is an untruth?"

Lucius thought about it and hesitantly said, "I suppose so, m'Lord."

Voldemort shrugged. "Oh, well. What's done is done, yes?"

Lucius gaped and worked up the nerve to ask, "You're not going to do anything, m'Lord? Like rescuing him from potential death and converting him to the Dark side?"

Voldemort laughed. "That sounds like far too much work to me, Lucius. I've always wanted to kill the Potter boy; just because the reason for my feelings is a deception doesn't mean that those emotions have changed. If I didn't hate Muggles so much, I might go and congratulate them. Now, I'm hungry. Bring me a biscuit."

Lucius bowed and walked slowly out of the room. Damn. He would have to give Severus five Galleons after all.

As he walked to the kitchen to filch a biscuit from the house elves, he cursed the Death Eater who made the 'Let's-see-how-long-it-takes-the-Dark-Lord-and-Potter-to-get-together' lottery.

FIN.

A/N: My response to the "Oh no, the prophesy's a fake! I must go rescue Potter from a dire situation and make love to him!" scenario that seems to be going around. It's not that I don't love those stories (I do), that response just doesn't seem very Voldemort-like.

What do you think canon!Voldemort would do? Rescue Harry or leave him to rot?
