Marley stood by her locker, staring aimlessly at the boy in front of her.

Jake Puckerman. He was all she had been thinking about since she first laid eyes on him. Yes, she had the biggest crush on Jake and she was determined to get him to like her back.

"Hey Marley, whatcha staring at?" A boy asked. This awoke Marley from her daydream. The boy was Ryder Lynn, her best friend since 6th grade. He was always there when she needed him.

"Oh nothing, I just spaced out," she lied.

"Marley, we both know you were staring at Jake,"

"Sshh"

"Marley, I know you better than anybody else and I know you like him. Why don't you just tell him?"

"You don't understand. I don't even think he likes me. I always feel like such an idiot when I talk to him. I mean do you have any idea what it's like to like someone so much and they don't feel the same way?" Marley asked.

"Yeah I definitely know," Ryder answered. For he himself, was in love with his best friend Marley. He'd always been in live with her. In sixth grade he was skinny and awkward and she was so nice and kind to him. Ever since then, he has fallen head over heals for her. It hurt him to know that she had her eyes on someone else, but he would always support her. "And he is a loser if he doesn't like you back."

"Thanks Ryder, I'm glad we're best friends!" She said as she hugged him. Ryder didn't want to let go, but he didn't want his true feelings revealed.

"Me too Marley." He smiled at her as he took in her beauty.

Just then, a Jake blocked of Ryder from Marley's vision. "Hey I'll walk you to class Marley." He said.

Marley's cheeks turned a bright pink as she answered, "Umm sure, of course! I mean if that's okay with you Ryder?" Ryder walked Marley to class everyday. In fact, most people assumed they were dating.

Ryder struggled with how to answer this. His walks with Marley were the best part of his day, but he wanted to make her happy. "Yeah of course. Go ahead man," Ryder answered and Jake and Marley went off.

Ryder did not like that Jake Puckerman one bit. He just always thought he was better than everybody else and he dated a lot of girls at their school. He warned Marley about him before but she wouldn't believe him.

As he watched Marley and Jake walk down the hall together. He did not like Jake, but he did make Marley happy. All Ryder wanted in the world was for Marley to be happy.
