Title: No Time Like the Present
Author: Ayame
Category: MSR
Description: Just a short fluff piece that popped into my head after watching Millennium.
Disclaimer: Yeah, you know the drill. I don't own them, I am not profiting from this in any way and if CC thinks I am could someone tell him that he needs to end his current lawsuit, write a new script for XF:2 and then maybe, MAYBE, he can try and sue me for all I am worth. (Which at the moment wouldn't be much)

"Grab whoever is next to you and hold them close, there's no time like the present." Dick Clark's voice echoed through the small waiting area in the hospital.
They stood close, arms touching slightly, watching the TV above their heads. Scully smiled as the celebration into the New Year was drawing to its climax. The count down began and time seemed to stand still as her mind wished with utter desperation to be able to indulge in her girlish fantasy. The same fantasy she thought of every time her partner quirked a smirk at her, pursed his lips together, or fed her a cheap innuendo in that low, seductive voice. She hoped he reserved that voice only for her. She ended the thoughts as the giant ball dropped indicating that the New Year has arrived.
Couples on the screen kissed and held each other. Confetti danced in the air in Time Square and Mulder missed all of this. His attention was now turned on Scully. She was smiling. She looked beautiful when they had nothing to fear at that moment. He wondered what was going through her head at that moment and wished like hell that he could still read minds.
His thoughts seemed to vanish and were replaced with action. He couldn't stop himself and didn't want to. His head moved closer to her and this caught her attention. She turned to him and he moved in quickly, catching her off guard. Their lips met in a cliché kiss that they both prayed would not be their last. Mulder savored every moment of the chaste kiss until he reluctantly pulled away from her.
He expected to see disgust or anger but found that her smile was even wider. 'Damn she is amazing.' He thought to himself. He wanted to say something, something to shed light into the depths of his inner most desires. However all that flowed from his lips was,
"The world didn't end." 'Damn!' he mentally shouted. He smiled down on her hoping his eyes said more than he did.
She looked deep within his eyes and thought for a moment she saw her own emotions reflecting back at her like a mirror. "No, it didn't." she responded. She turned herself back to face the TV but her expression never changed. The grin on her face was like a wild fire that refused to be extinguished. She heard him sigh as he too turned back.
"Happy New Year, Scully."
"Happy New Year, Mulder."
Mulder placed his arm around her shoulder and led her away from the hospital, away from the Millennium group, away from the zombies and necromancers, taking her to the beginning. He thought happily to himself, 'Yes, no time like the present.'

I know, fluff. I just couldn't resist giving my thoughts, however unorganized they may be considering this was written at 3 am. Begins to hum 3 am by Matchbox 20. Wow… I need sleep. Anyway, let me know what you think. I am always open to criticism.
