Authors Note: This is a little poem I wrote in the spirit of christmas. I was inspired by The night before Christmas by Brandon Heath, This is Christmas by Kutless, and Back to Bethlahem from The adventures in Odyessy. Hope you like it as much as I do.

Finding Reason for the Season

Walking around, last minutes thing

Not really listening as the bells ring

Looking for something, not quite sure

Life quickly becoming a blur

Getting back home, lock the door

Decorations and shopping bags cover the floor

Collapse on the couch, begin to count sheep

Not long before falling fast asleep

Sun's rays in the sky, looking around

In a strange land, in an ancient town

Dressed in clothes from another date

Thinking this must be some mistake

In ancient times, lost in thought

Stopped by a man deeply distraught

Young man points to his wife to be

Now realizing what's before me

Helping the girl into a cave

Try to be strong try to be brave

The only shelter, where animals lay

The only bed made out of hay

Standing by the girl long into the night

She grabs my hand and holds it tight

Heart skips a beat, catch my breath

This is the child, savior from death

Not long after, the baby is here

The girl holds him close, she holds him dear

Looking with awe, looking with joy

Eyes beholding the miracle boy

Outside of the shelter, tears fill my eyes

Take a look up, look to the skies

Among the clouds, see a light dancing

A bright star of hope, ever entrancing

Caught up in awe, the story I see

Suddenly a light illumines me

A light from above, shines on some sheep

Terrified shepherds, shaken from sleep

The angels sing, lift praises high

Their angelic voices fill the sky

Men make their way to their baby King

Shouts of joy, praises ring

Living the story, hearing the sound

Hand to my heart, knees on the ground

Thanking the Lord, for what he showed me

For what Christmas really should be

Waking up, with opened eyes

Then there's something I realize

Unfolding my fingers, open my hand

A simple thing, and yet so grand

A small wooden baby, from a nativity set

A tiny trinket that I so easily forget

Yet looking down, the dream gets me thinking

About this time and it's true meaning

For unto us a child is born

We celebrate this December morn

For us a savior came to earth

To give our lives true meaning and worth

Before I had no joy for the season

But now I see that dream had a reason

Through that night God spoke to me

To show me how Christmas was meant to be

May you find joy this Chrstmas and I hope that it is a blessed one. Joy to the world, peace on earth, hallelujah, heaven and nature sing.

Have a wonderful Christmas!
