Col. Jack O'Neill stood, with his team on either side, in front of the massive ring known as the Stargate. As the last chevron locked in place, he glanced at his team. To his left was Dr. Daniel Jackson, the resident archaeologist and linguist on SG-1. On O'Neill's right was Major Samantha Carter, a soldier and astrophysicist, and Teal'c, a tall, dark, incredibly strong Jaffa. They were a motley crew, O'Neill knew, but they were a team. Daniel's obsession with ancient objects and languages might be irritating, Carter's techno-babble might take an express flight right over O'Neill's head every time she tried to explain something, and Teal'c's Jaffa honor thing might get a bit annoying when they had to go get him out of some situation, but they were a team. His team; SG-1.

The familiar kawoosh of the Stargate establishing it's interstellar wormhole brought O'Neill out of his reverie.

"You have a go, Colonel." Gen. Hammond said over the loudspeakers in the Gate Room. "Godspeed, SG-1."

"Thank you, sir." O'Neill nodded to his C.O. "Let's go see what wonders are in store for us on P3X-479." He motioned for SG-1 to follow him up the ramp and through the gate. There was the now familiar sense of rushing at break-neck speeds past stars and planets, then they were stepping out on the other side. An ancient-looking forest surrounded them, with moss trailing from the branches of the dark trees. Sam went to check on the M.A.L.P. while Daniel eyed the surrounding area for writing or signs of civilization. Jack and Teal'c watched the trees for threats. When Sam and Daniel were done, they headed out, following a faint trail that led from the Gate. Ten minutes later, screams suddenly rent the air.
