Xigbar awoke to that oh-too-familiar sound of his alarm clock beeping monotonously. He groaned and sat up, stretching as he did so.
Another day, another dollar. He thought as he dragged himself out of bed and headed towards the bathroom, grabbing his Organization-issued coat. Not that I'm actually getting paid for this.
He shut the door and locked it, hung his coat up, then had a shower. Just as he did every morning. Same time every day, same routine. It was getting tedious, but there was nothing he could do about it. Exactly ten minuets later, as always, he turned the taps off and got dry. Then he dressed himself in the same clothes dull clothes that he always wore and looked in the mirror.
"I wonder what they'll have you doing today, Xiggy? Probably some pointless quest to gather hearts, or a long, boring meeting..." He sighed loudly. "Talking to yourself... It's a sign of insanity, y'know?"
Not that he was talking to himself, not really. He hadn't been himself for a long time. 'Himself' was Braig. Charming, funny, flamboyant. Handsome features and stylish clothing. Not the scarred, weary mess that he was analysing in the mirror. He raised a hand to his eyepatch and straightened it, remembering the day he lost the eye that it covered. That was when his life went downhill; when Terra made a mess of his beautiful face.
But was it really then? Say he had defeated Terra, would it have made any difference to his fate? He looked deeply into his one good eye, the golden colour as radiant as ever. He had known all along that his path was inevitable. What he saw in his reflection was not Braig. It wasn't even Xigbar. It was Xehanort. And with every day, he could feel himself fading, becoming nothing more than a distant memory. Soon would be the time for Xehanort to take control. Soon would be the time that the Darkness took over completely.
Soon would be the time of Kingdom Hearts.
