This just came to me last night and couldn't hold it. Its just some sort of bittersweet reflexion of mine about MXM and LXL's relationship. Hope you like this one-shot.
Love is something weird, it can unfold in the most varied ways. L discovered just that little ago.
Even if he could appear uninterested, I bet L kept an eye on his possible successors. Probably he knew well Mello and Matt's relationship. They were going steady even before they knew themselves. It has always been clear who led and who followed. Even after Mello's absence Matt still responded to his call; and still was willing to die for him. That was surely so bitter, L thought, to love someone knowing he loves his revenge better.
The pot calling the kettle black.
L and Light's relationship was more of a fight. It was... I can't really find a word to describe it, it is between agressive and tense without really becoming violent. If I had to put a name to it I would say their love dwelt and developed in the voids between tension and aggressiveness, in the loose loops of their wavering back and forth, their race towards each other's destruction.
While Matt and Mello's can be the object of many romantic situations, when they would forget their fate and just shelter in their love, Light and Ryuzaki could not afford such thing. I think the names game is very accurate, very beautiful. It was L vs Kira, Ryuzaki x Light. The most dramatic scene are those in which they actually fight, they actually hit each other. I find that first time they fought, when L was dissapointed to discover that by then Light wasn't Kira, to be very dramatic. Light snaps at him that he had hurt many people (including -and most importantly- Light himself) to get that far, he couldn't stop just then. I think both L and Light knew this, knew that without the investigation, without their game of hide and seek they couldn't be together; because in the bottom of their heart they needed to battle. Once you understand this you discover their chained rows to be the highest expresion of the nature of their love. With each blow Kira hit Ryuzaki was hurt, but the chain -their love- tug Light, making him fall and hurting him too. With each kick L threw both Light and Ryuzaki ached. Thus, every step closer they took towards discovering their nemesis, they stepped closer to their own annihilation as well.
That may be the reason to why the fandom can't really settle on which of them dominates, their struggle remains.
Surely Ryuzaki envyed Matt and Mello. He wished he and Light would love each other enough as to forget about their alter egos.
Please, review, I know people don't usually review one shots but it would be so important to me, even if you just want to disagree, let me know. Those who write know so please, help a fellow dreamer.
