Shock

He sat in shock. He hadn't suffered any trauma, he wasn't bleeding profusely, he hadn't even been hit with a hex of any kind. It was another kind of shock. His world had just turned itself rightside-left and Percy Ignatius Weasley had no idea what to make of it.

Physically he was sitting on a rather uncomfortable blue chair that brought out the color of his Ministry robes in a room stark of any familial ties. There weren't any pictures on the walls, nor on the desk he sat behind. It was void of any adornments save for a light coat of almond paint.

His face was likewise void of any emotion. He was thinking. Thinking of his brother Ron and the letter he'd sent to him (protect), of the returned Weasley Jumper to his mother (guilt), of his father in a hospital bed waiting in vain for his estranged son to arrive (pride). He thought of many things, the least of them filling him with a feeling so intense he dropped his stony mask.

Complete and utter shock.
Wrong.
He had been wrong.
So wrong.
What was he going to do?

The need to protect told him he'd only been looking out for his brother. Against the wrong person it had turned out, but who would've thought their own government could have been wrong?

His parents. The guilt set in. He knew they'd been right all along. And he'd belittled them for it. He scrunched his eyes up tight. That guilt was telling him that he didn't deserve to be part of that family. Families stuck together. They didn't let their pride take them far away voluntarily. Still, a larger part of him wanted to crawl back on his belly, pleading for forgiveness.

His pride was telling him a man doesn't crawl. Certainly not one of his position in the Ministry. But pride hadn't served him well in the past and what did the Ministry stand for now, anyway? This time he wouldn't listen to his damned pride.

The mask did not return, but his face lost some of its shocked nature. He had a plan.

Apologize. ("I'm sorry.")
Ask for forgiveness. ("I miss you.")
Beg. ("Please let me back in.")
Grovel. ("I was wrong.")
Plead. ("I love you all!")
Change. ("Minister, I quit.")

He'd shock them all.
