A/N Pourquoi la soeur du mien ? Means Why sister of mine?
What does a little eleven year old girl say to the big sister who so obviously hates her?
Lily Evens sat on her robe at the Owlery with her back against the wall. It was fairly early in the morning, but she had woken up from dreams of her sister calling her a freak, and she no longer wanted to sleep. She had been a Hogwarts for months now. In fact, she had just gotten back from Holidays a little over a month ago.
The Holidays were nothing like she was hoping for. When she had ran up to give her big sister a hug, Petunia had only pushed her away and huffed. She didn't even say hello to Lily. Over the few weeks that Lily stayed with her family, Petunia had been absolutely horrid. She called Lily a freak countless times, making Lily cry, which would caused their parents to scold Petunia, and then tell Lily that she wasn't a freak. Her parents comfort hadn't help at all. She really just wanted them to comfort Petunia. She was the one who felt betrayed, not Lily. Although, her sister's taunts did make her wonder if she really was a freak.
Severus had told her, when she came back to school, that she wasn't a freak. Petunia was only jealous. Lily appreciated Severus's efforts, but just couldn't get the words out of her head. That's when she had decided, a month ago, that if she was a freak, then she would become the smartest freak to step foot inside of Hogwarts. Well, next to Dumbledore of course.
Lily had began to spend nearly every night, weekends included, in the Library studying ahead. Everyday in class when her professors asked a question, she always knew the answer, but it didn't make her sister's words go away. So here she sat, with a roll of parchment and her special quill, trying to think of what to write to her sister.
Maybe she would simple talk about her friends and school. No, that would only upset Petunia. Maybe Lily could talk about the upcoming summer break, but Lily doubted that Petunia was really looking forward to it. She could tell her sister funny things that have happened to her, like falling in the lake while trying to dance under the sun. Certainly Petunia wouldn't find her dancing under the sun funny, but the falling part would be. Or not. Petunia could get mad that they have a lake at Hogwarts. There actually wasn't much to say to Petunia at all, except to apologize for being a freak.
Lily quickly wrote down an apology. She explained that she didn't mean to be like this, and that she wished Petunia was with her. She wrote that she missed her and that they could still be okay, but that Lily can't make the magic go away. Then she apologized again. Lily began to cry as she signed her name with a little heart for the dot on the "i", and rolled up the parchment. After picking an owl and tying the parchment to it's leg, she watched it fly off into the sky, knowing full well that she would never get a reply.
