Steam billowed out from the teapot. A sharp whistle rang through the air as Laili came rushing in. The tea was finished. Without thinking, she grabbed the hot metal handle and pain seared through her right arm. She quickly turned the stove off and yelped as she clutched her newly burnt hand tightly.
Loud footsteps could be heard as someone dashed into the room. Not noticing, Laili sobbed quietly. "what are you doing??" before she knew it an arm reached out and pulled her hand underneath the cold faucet.
Laili grimaced at the pain " just keep your hand there, it will be over soon" she looked up and saw Malik's worried face, " seriously Laili, I thought something worse happened to you". He took her arm back from the running tap water and led her to the table. He sat her down and began to look for Laili's extensive medical box.
Laili sighed, it all happened so quickly. All she wanted to do was to make some tea and share it with Malik. She shook her head perhaps this was why her friends never let her near the kitchen, she never understood it, because her cooking was fairly good; but now she knows that it wasn't her cooking… it was her naivety .
Lavender eyes brightened as they had found their treasure. He lifted the box, carried it to the table, and placed it in front of Laili. "I'm looking for some sort of cream?" Laili snapped out of her thoughts and nodded "yes it should be the Bepanthen topical cream". Malik pulled out a small tube and some fresh gauze along with some scissors and tape.
He gently pulled her hand to his lap and began gently applying the cream. His eyes found hers "does it sting?" Laili smiled, "just a little bit" Malik chuckled, "I still cannot consider you… burning yourself over tea". He set her arm down and reached for the gauze that was in Laili's left hand.
Laili sighed as Malik began to wrap her arm. "I honestly don't know what happened; I'm such a dim-witted person." Lavender eyes smothered her brown ones "hush now, you of all people are not dimwitted, this happens to us all". Laili looked down at Malik who was finishing her arm.
An interesting idea formed in her mind as she watched him tie the gauze. "It's like a mummy!" giggled Laili. Malik looked up with a serious face "not funny".
Nevertheless, his eyes were smiling.
