Kings and Queens

Oh, King of Love,
Oh, Queen of Lust,
Forever working together to enchant the world.
Oh, King of Light,
Oh, Queen of Darkness,
Forever locked in war.
Oh, King of Pain,
Oh, Queen of Death
Forever making room in this world for more.
Oh, King of Life,
Oh, Queen of Joy,
Forever sharing with this world.
Kings and queens…
The fates as we know them,
yet as we know them not...
The royals that rule this world.
Oh, how they must hate us,
That we can know such a range of emotion,
a range that they give us,
yet they cannot know it themselves.
Perhaps they act as they do,
so that they may have some sort of...
satisfaction.
Knowing that we
cannot know such happiness,
or such sadness,
without the other.
They give us one right on the heels of the other.
Happiness as they give us,
comes to us,
like the calm before the storm.
Only after we know kindness,
Do we know sadness.
We must know the joy and company of others,
before we can know loneliness.
But just as there is 'before' the storm,
there is an 'after'.
It is more painful than the 'before',
but it also comes with the relief that we survived.
The new knowledge,
that we were not destroyed,
that we could survive if it happened again.
That though we see only weakness in ourselves,
there is a strength.
And that strength,
is enough to get us through the storm,
and the 'after' that comes with it.
So maybe they love us?
Like parents love their children,
Forcing them to muddle through on their own,
so as to know how to rely on no one.
But always making sure that they do get through.
Or maybe they're divided?
A love/hate complex?
But they still give it to us, so…?
Wait a second,
wouldn't that mean that they have a range of emotion,
that is probably bigger than our own?
On second thought, I give up.
What they feel is what they feel…
besides it's not like they're going to tell us.
