"Ron," Hermione sighed as she watched her husband sit sulkily in the bed they shared, "you didn't have to get up if you didn't want to. I know you're not really a morning person. You don't really have to get up early for me."
"And let you guilt me about for the rest of the day?" Ron snorted. "Not bloody likely." He folded his arms over his chest as he got up and joined Hermione at the bay window.
"You know I wouldn't do that, Ronald."
A yawn escaped Ron's mouth as he turned to Hermione. He wouldn't readily admit it to Hermione or anyone else but enjoyed these little moment with her. Moments when it could just be the two of them. Not the two of them and the children. They hadn't had many of these moments since Rosie was born.
"I'm sorry about giving you such a hard time," he sighed. "It's just we need to find time for ourselves that doesn't involve waking up so early in the morning. Don't you agree?"
Hermione nodded. She'd been thinking about how little time she usually got to spend with Ron on a daily basis. She was either at work at the Ministry or with one of the children doing something. She felt a little sorry that she hadn't thought about setting aside some time besides these moments that they basically stole.
"You have a point," she admitted quietly. "I have an idea. Why don't I call up Harry and Ginny and ask them to take the kids for the night and we can have an adult night? We can get some time to ourselves and maybe do some things we haven't been able to in a while."
Ron who had been snoring away quietly startled awake a the last statement. "I'm sorry," he mumbled tiredly. "I...didn't listen to a word you just said. Except for that last bit."
Hermione rolled her eyes. Ron would never change. Not that she wanted him to. "While you were taking your little nap," Hermione quipped, "I said why don't I call up Harry and Ginny and see if they can take Rosie and Hugo for the night and we can have some adult time." A confident smile lit up her face as she nodded at her own idea.
"Good idea, Hermione," Ron told her as he took in her smile. "Why didn't we think of this before now?"
"I don't know. But I'm glad we thought of it now." She leaned into Ron's side as the sun came over the big oak tree in the front yard heralding in a new day for the small family. "We can sleep in a bit before the kids wake up."
Smiling at the suggestion Ron pulled Hermione back to the bed. Diving into the nice warm covers he felt a confident smile come over his face for the day ahead. He had his health, life, and family. And nothing could go wrong in his little world.
I hope you all enjoyed A New Day.
