"Hey Kurt, where's Blaine?" Rachel asked as she took a seat across from the pale boy who had been looking through a fashion magazine. Hearing the diva's voice, he looked up from the page with a bright smile on his face. "He's not free. Looks like it's just you and me today, Rach."
He watched as the small girl rested her chin on her fist as she placed her elbow on the table and sighed. "What's the matter?" He asked, concerned. "Nothing. Just thinking about New York."
He chuckled knowingly. "I understand. I can't stop dreaming about it either. Central Park, Broadway, everything." "Yeah, I can't wait till we finally graduate and embark on our dreams. I can't believe we lost nationals all because Finn and I kissed." She said with a hint of sadness and guilt.
He reached across the table and took the brunette's smaller hand in his before he spoke sincerely, "I know it hurts but at least we got to sing on the stage of Wicked, right?" He grinned as he noticed her warm brown eyes immediately light up and her lips breaking into a wide smile. "And," he added, "we'll be back there in a year so we can use this time to plan our futures carefully." He eyes grew wide when Rachel pulled out a folded piece of paper with a timeline drawn on it and milestones in their careers already marked out neatly, complete with what roles they were going to play. "Wow."
"Yeah," she giggled and ducked her head slightly as she blushed, "one step ahead of you." "Wow." He repeated as he stared at the paper, speechless.
"See, we're both going to Julliard, then we'll live in an apartment together, we'll both get part time jobs until we get our first role, we'll most likely not be leads yet so we'll keep auditioning, then when we get our big break, we'll get famous and-" "Rachel," Kurt said as he cut off his friend's rambling, "don't you think you're getting a bit far ahead of yourself? I mean, we haven't even gotten into Julliard yet." He immediately regretted his words as he saw the girl's face fall and she slumped back in her chair.
"You're right, Kurt. What if we don't get in? What if I have to attend Lima State? What if I become a Lima loser? What-" He took her hand that was gesturing wildly as she spoke and gave it a light squeeze. "Rachel, remember what I said? You're one in a billion. You're going to be the one that makes it! Well, apart from me but I'll be the one from the next billion. What I'm trying to say is that there are so many what ifs in life but we can't keep thinking about them. What if you didn't kiss Finn? What if, what if. It's too late for regrets, all we can do is look to the future and do our best to avoid these horrible what ifs that you're worrying about. We can't control what's going to happen but we can control how we react. So what if we don't get into Julliard, it doesn't mean we can't make it on Broadway, right? We're going to get out of here, together. You know why?"
He took her other small hand in his larger ones, tan nicely contrasted with pale. Rachel briefly looked down at their joined hands, willing her tears not to spill out. "Why?" She finally asked, bringing her eyes up to meet Kurt's.
"Because, we have each other. We'll do it, Rach. We'll make it." He smiled at her and she coudn't resist the urge to smile back.
A/N I haven't watched the nationals episode yet but I did watch their amazing duet. Hummelberry friendship is the best! Please review, hope you enjoyed it!
