Must I Release You?

Duo realized he couldn't open the door. He couldn't find the willpower to raise his arm. Here he was, in Quatre's estate. Quatre and Trowa had already turned in; it was late, he knew no one would find him. The war was finally over...Duo knew he should be happy. Casualties were inevitable anyway. However, this casualty had been the most tragic of all.
What was he thinking? He was the God of Death, was he not? Why should one death bother him? Duo knew he shouldn't let it get to him...but it did.
Finally, he opened the door, and closed It quietly behind him. An empty blue room....that's all it was. Duo shook his head. He wanted it to be an empty room, but it wasn't empty. He lifted his head slowly, and there it was; a foot off the ground placed upon a white table was the black coffin. Duo turned away. No, it wasn't there, he was dreaming! This couldn't be real....
Coming to his senses, he took a step forward - head held high to keep the tears from falling, fists tight to keep his hands from shaking as he approached the shining black coffin. He ran his hands slowly and carefully along the top of it. Yes, it was real...so horrifically real. With a deep breath, he unlatched the top of the coffin and opened it.
Duo went weak for a moment. That was Heero. But it wasn't at the same time. Heero looked so placid laying comfortably on the plush inside.
"Heero...." He whispered
/Who's gonna be m savior
/Now that I've learned to believe?
/Who's gonna be the answer
/To all of my questioning?
Heero had tried to kill himself so many ways, and yet he couldn't die. How could he die now! No one could figure out the cause. Duo only remembered finding him, inside Zero-Wing. And Heero's last words, oh how he longed to hear them again. They echoed over and over again in his mind.
'I never did get to tell you....that I love you...'
/Well I hope I'm not lost
/But I think that hope is now distancing
/And the words that secure a thought
/Are now faint whisperings
"Heero...." Duo said again, and placed his hands gingerly on Heero's cold face. "I wish you would have at least let me say goodbye..." He let out a sigh, and carelessly let a tear run down his cheek, falling onto Heero's ripped green shirt.
/Who's gonna wear my crown
/I don't know
/I just might, alone
/Who's gonna wear my crown
/I don't know
/I've just got to go on my way
Even if Heero would have seen Duo's weakness now, Duo still wished that Heero's lips would move, even if the only sound that came from them was 'shut up'. It wasn't fair. He thought they'd always be together. He ran his fingers through Heero's hair. All his self control flowed down his face.
"Kuso!!" He yelled, and slammed his fist on the rim of the coffin.
/Who's gonna be my partner
/Now that I stand here alone.
/Who's gonna be the shepherd
/To lead this poor boy back home
Duo cried, steadily, but not uncontrollably. It was the only thing he could think of to do. His hand was still pressed softly against Heero's cheek. Letting only a single tear fall onto Heero's forehead, Duo leaned over, and delivered a gentle kiss to Heero's unmoving lips.
"Heero...I just realized I never told you loved you, either..."
/Well I hope I'm not lost
/But I think that hope is now distancing
/And the words the secure a thought
/Are now faint whisperings
