"I'm sorry Jay," she said mournfully as she finally reached the grave that was marked with the name Jay Gatsby, "I'm sorry for everything. I wish I could still be the girl that you had once been in love with but I'm not and that kills me. I'm sorry for being a fool, and not even a beautiful one at that," Daisy poured out her heart to the slab of stone that represented all that Jay Gatsby had left behind and the man he had been.
"You did all of it, those parties, that house, the clothes, the money all for me and… and I didn't realize that… what I mean to say is that…I love you," she breathed out into the open air as tears fell from her eyes, "And what is worse is that I love you now more than I ever have before. When you were alive, it all didn't sink in to me yet… but now, now that you're dead… it's all clear to me. I'm not sorry I loved you and that you loved me never that Jay, but I am sorry for what I let happen to you."
Daisy wrung her hands in grief as she cleared her throat of the sobs that seemed to be stuck in it.
Tears blurred her vision even more as the sun beat down on her, but Daisy did not care. Ever since Jay died, everything had gone cold and dark to Daisy. She no longer felt or saw the shimmering rays of the sun, the sky was no longer blue to her but a hovering black cloud, the wind whipped endlessly around her though there was no breeze that morning, and the world seemed to have lost its magical effect on her. The world she now saw was not in color like it had used to be but black and white.
"I'm so sorry Jay," she let slip past her quivering lips as she thought of what events had led up to his death, "I'm so sorry…" Hot tears began to trickle down her face and she sniffled a few times.
"No one had ever or will ever love me like you did, Jay," she whispered with a slight smile at the memories, "I always knew that whenever I was with you that I was with someone that loved and cared for me."
A honk of a horn caused Daisy to jump, startled, and look back at the car that was waiting near the entrance of the cemetery.
"I love you, Jay Gatbsy," her melodic sweet voice carried into the air as nothing more than a whisper but she meant it all the same.
A green light flashed and disappeared in the distance in Daisy's line of view shortly after that. She smiled fully for the first time since the horrible death of Gatbsy and Daisy knew that he had heard her…
"You really were something, weren't you Jay?" her murmur was left unanswered but Daisy knew the answer deep down.
Another flash of the green light was seen and a ghost of a smile appeared on her lips as she left the cemetery.
Just a short Daisy/Jay drabble. I'm going to reread the book before the movie comes out.
